San Francisco weighs decriminalizing prostitution

San Francisco weighs decriminalizing prostitution

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - In this live-and-let-live town, where medical marijuana clubs do business next to grocery stores and an annual fair celebrates sadomasochism, prostitutes could soon walk the streets without fear of arrest.
San Francisco would become the first major U.S. city to decriminalize prostitution if voters next month approve Proposition K—a measure that forbids local authorities from investigating, arresting or prosecuting anyone for selling sex.

The ballot question technically would not legalize prostitution since state law still prohibits it, but the measure would eliminate the power of local law enforcement officials to go after prostitutes.

Proponents say the measure will free up $11 million the police spend each year arresting prostitutes and allow them to form collectives.

"It will allow workers to organize for our rights and for our safety," said Patricia West, 22, who said she has been selling sex for about a year by placing ads on the Internet. She moved to San Francisco in May from Texas to work on Proposition K.

How about just San Fran.?  First we would have to get Zombie from zombietime out.

If it's not safe then try organizing yourself a new job.  Although far be it from me to put a community organizer out of work.  :whatever:

Prostitution must be a really low-paying job in SF.  First off, I really doubt females could make enough to even support their drug habits.  Then there's the fact that the fags give it away for free every chance they get, so why bother trying to be a gay prostitute?

Exit question: how long before SF puts prostitutes on the city payroll?

You mean, those whores up at city hall aren't on the city payroll?

I doubt this could compete with Vegas. In SF, no straight guy would pick up a gal, as there would be no way to tell her gender until it would be...too late.
That and the chance to get a terminal disease in SH is 10,000% higher than anywhere else.

Why waste the fuel of an orbital launch?  Isn't there somewhere close that can fire off a cruise missile?

D.C. institutionalized prostitution ages ago and the most expensive brothel in town is shaped like a giant boob.

I'm thinking you would need a much larger warhead to totally erase SF from the map. So maybe a launch from Vandenberg with a Minuteman III would work?

North Korea wouldn't hit SF. After all, SF is probably the only US place that would be pro- N. Korea

I expect there will be more of this once the market is liberalised.

DAYTON, Ohio —  A judge has sentenced a southwest Ohio woman to 18 months in prison for trying to work her 17-year-old daughter as a prostitute.

A Montgomery County judge told Rachel White on Monday that her actions were "disgusting," and she verbally agreed.

Sheriff's deputies say they found the 39-year-old woman and a man prostituting the girl at a Dayton-area hotel in April.

There are two "legal" whore-houses in town here.

The rationale behind it was to take control of that sort of operation from the bikers and other criminal gangs that ran it.

I don't know that it has worked as intended or not.
