Did you see the breakdown of racial lines/age/seniority?  No surprise in them really.

A racial divide was immediately evident among the respondents. Nearly eight in 10 black servicemembers chose Obama, while McCain captured 76 percent of white voters and 63 percent of Hispanic voters.

Here is something that is more interesting,

Quote
According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen and women support McCain, while 23 percent support Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted troops.

U.S. troops also said in the poll that they prefer McCain to handle the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- 74 percent said McCain would perform better, while just 19 percent said Obama would.

So, even some of those who are willing to vote for Obama admit that McCain is better to handle Iraq and Afghanistan.

Quote
Four years ago the Iraq War was the single most important issue on which the military voted. But the war now ranks third in importance to these voters. The most important issue among the respondents was character (42 percent), followed by the economy (25 percent) and the Iraq War (16 percent).

Looks like the troops are sure we are winning in Iraq.

This about the same margin that went for W over Flip Flop in '04 if memory serves.

What's telling about this poll too is that The Military Times publications are owned by Gannett...the same folks that print USA Today.

They aren't the most Military/Republican friendly group out there.

sh*t.  If CNN conducted the same poll, Obama would win, 85% to 10%.    :banghead:

According to Powell that doesn't matter.

Powell hasn't been relevant since the Gulf War.  Schwartzkopf was the ass-kicker in that particular war; Powell has always struck me (a non-veteran) as a paper pusher.

I'll wait to see who Petraeus supports for 2008.

you're gonna have to be in the booth with him.  he won't make a statement either way since any endorsement by him is gonna violate army regs.  i can get away with doing it in civilian clothes, but if he did it, that would imply an endorsement by the army
