Dems to hold Fannie, Freddie hearing – post election
« on: October 20, 2008, 05:48:05 PM »

you wouldn't want to cause any embarrassing revelations for The BarackStar!, chris dodd, or bawney fwank before the
election would you?  still, this is as cowardly as it comes;  they already have control of both houses of congress.  there
must be some really explosive stuff out there is they don't want to hold these hearing until (they think) they have all
three branches of gubmint under their control.

Dems to hold Fannie, Freddie hearing – post election

Democrats are giving Republicans the hearing they’ve been demanding to dig into the failures of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but it won’t happen until after the election.

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) Monday announced that he will hold a hearing into the collapse of the mortgage giants on Nov. 20, and plans to call several of the firms’ ex-CEOs, including Fannie Mae's Franklin Raines.

Republicans view the two companies as Democrats’ political Achilles heel amid a financial meltdown that has led to calls for more regulation of the financial sector. The GOP dubbed the companies the “toxic twins” and launched a campaign to discredit Waxman’s series of investigative hearings into corporate misdeeds by complaining he was ignoring “Fannie and Freddie.”

At the beginning of his second hearing, into the American International Group (AIG) insurance company, Waxman announced he would hold a hearing on the mortgage giants. Republicans immediately pressed him for a date.

“It seems highly suspicious that Chairman Waxman has delayed this particular hearing - which doubtless will focus on the desperate need for reform and Fannie and Freddy, and the equally desperate efforts by Democratic leaders to block those reforms,” said Michael Steel, spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Well In  a sense it does make sense to wait til after the election. The committee chairmanships could change as a result of the election. So too could committee membership.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

unless something changes dramatically, none of the chairmanships that matter in this particular context are going to change.  the names of the people in the committee will likely change, but the percentage by party of the relevant committees won't change.  I'm sort of surprised that they are bothering, unless the idea is to blame one more thing on the bush administration even after it is out the door.
