Baldwin County deputies arrested a man dressed as a woman late Wednesday evening after the suspect allegedly attempted to break into a Foley beauty shop to look at himself in the mirror.
Deputies said Frederick M. Koetter, 42, of Foley was wearing a blonde wig, was dressed to look like the shop owner and explained to authorities that he'd just wanted to sit in the shop owner's chair and look at himself. Koetter was charged with third-degree burglary, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
"It gave me a chill when the deputy asked, 'Do you wear flowered smocks?' I said yes, and he said they thought he'd made himself up to look like me," said Rose Stevens, 76, owner of A Curl & Style on Baldwin County 65 in Foley. Koetter claimed to have recently gotten a haircut at the shop, deputies said, but Stevens said she did not remember ever seeing him before.
According to family members, Koetter has suffered from mental illness his entire life.
