Obama Addresses N.C. Voter Who Called Him "Socialist"

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - John McCain’s charges that Barack Obama is socialist may be resonating with some voters.

At a BBQ stop this afternoon, Obama received an unwelcome greeting from one woman who yelled “socialist, socialist, socialist – get out of here!” as he met with other customers.

The woman, Diane Fanning, who works at Sam’s Club, then asked the Democratic nominee about the North American Union, which he opposes.

“I know some people have been hearing rumors about it. But as far as I can tell that’s just not something that’s happening. We would never give up our sovereignty in that way. Any other questions?” Obama asked Fanning.

She reluctantly responded, “No, I’m not going to say it.”

I wondered about that, too.  but I assumed (giving him maximum credit) that he was referring to the north american union when he said something about sovereignty.  now, what it's doing in a conversation about socialism is a different question.

interesting that he has seemed more than willing to cede our sovereignty to the UN a few hundred times in the past couple of years.

These people are truly simpletons. What's a socialist? i dunno, mus' be som'n rull bad or som'n. Socialist!

Fact of the matter is practical socialism is already widely practiced anywhere the government regulates a shared resource such as water.

Ideological socialism caps wages for everyone and sets manufacturing orders - and there isn't a red blooded democrat anywhere that would go along with that, besides the fact that it doesn't work.

I say good on her for taking the risk that the Obama campaign and the legion of his minions in the media would try and detroy her for daring to criticise Obama.  Or perhaps you think digging up the divorce records of a member of the public (invited by Obama to ask a question) for the crime of asking a critical question is something less 'lunatic' than heckling a politician.
