Caution: Ignorant, gun-hating MSM at work
By Michelle Malkin  •  October 9, 2008 10:24 AM

Newsweek put a 2002 photo of Sarah Palin holding a shotgun on its latest magazine cover. The editors are clearly trying to freak out their liberal readership.

But their latest PDS ploy is going to backfire. She looks fabulous and it’s a reminder that she isn’t just a conservative elitist who sits in a Manhattan office or in the ivory tower bloviating about the Second Amendment. She practices what she preaches:

The wonderful thing about the Palin effect is that it’s so effectively exposing MSM hatred and ignorance. Check out LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead’s moronic comments about the Palin cover: “Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?” (Hat tip - Ace.)

I’ll let some of the snort-worthy reactions of LA Times readers speak for themselves:

I suppose that liberals would never know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun - being that you rely solely on the bravery and honor of patriotic Americans to protect you.

Is that a right way to hold a rifle? No. But it is an appropriate way to hold a breech loading shotgun. Which that is. Reporters often wonder how those rural hicks always can spot them. It’s comments like that. It’s ok to wikipedia things. That doesn’t make you a stupid rural hick. In fact, having your facts right might make you seem less of an arrogant, erudite reporter who doesn’t even know what she doesn’t know.

Your question was “Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?”

Obviously you don’t know anything about guns….your finger has to be on the trigger for it to discharge. Also, with an over and under firearm, like that pictured, the gun has to be closed to fire. Guess you should stick to the gossip and fashions - Go get some gun training before you make stupid comments like that!

That’s not a rifle it’s a over under shotgun, Which is broken open at the breach. That’s a common way to carry them.

Well, actually, it’s not a rifle. It’s an over and under shotgun; but coming from Southern California, we can’t expect all of you to know that.

The longarm appears to be a shotgun and side by side which breaks open. It is not possible to shoot the gun with the action open. Many hunters do carry a shotgun broken open like that over their shoulder.

I suggest before you ask a question if that is the correct way to hold a gun talk to people at a gun shop or range or hunter shop.

A rifle? That isn’t a rifle. But then, how can we expect anybody in the press to know that?

Here’s the bio of the LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead:

Elizabeth Snead is creator and writer of The Dish Rag, a daily blog about celebrities, style and awards fashion, as well as the weekly “Red Carpet Rewind” feature.

Elizabeth previously served as fashion editor at USA Today for over a decade. She’s covered Hollywood’s hottest red carpets and the sizzling international style scene as a regular at film festivals from Sundance to Cannes.

She’s profiled A-list stars such as George Clooney, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Jane Fonda, and Drew Barrymore for USA Today and she penned the scathing E! Fashion Police for five years, calling some stars to task for unspeakable crimes of fashion and praising others for their superb style.

Stick to fashion policing and leave the gun critiques to people who know what they’re talking about, sweetie.

I'd be thrilled if that was an AR-15 she was holding, but those are kinda hard to hang over your shoulder.

What does the sub-title say?  I can't read it.

Any publication that would employ Elanor Clift has zero credibility, never mind their bogus Koran article.

I don't even think anybody reads Snoozeweek at the dentist office anymore, let along subscribe to it. They're only preaching to their Prius driving, NPR listening to, soy mocha latte drinking readership.

Clift is still on The McLaughlin Group on PBS.  She's hideous.
