But that would shatter the bonds of civil-military authority and no republic survives that.
True, even when a democracy's military is pushed to the point of acting solely to preserve the democracy, it is a crossing of the Rubicon and it is very damned hard to put the djinn back in the bottle...not entirely impossible, though, just God-awful tough, lengthy, and often bloody.
