where's everybody from (at)?
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:35:04 PM »
This seems a good prelude, one of those bands that plays at concerts before the real band appears, to a Friday evening thread--where's everybody from, or at?

Many were acquainted when members of another site, but there's been some new people here, including those sent by P-J Comix of the most-excellent DUmmie FUnnies, and so it might be a good idea to get an idea where members are from, or at.

Personally, that's perhaps why I perhaps possibly maybe "overuse" the term "the Sandhills of Nebraska" in so many comments; it's just a small reminder that I'm posting from a time and place hardly anyone else knows.

I live in the Dallas area.

I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska.  Moved to Tulsa when I was 15.   Got married when I was 20 and we moved to Phoenix for about 5 years and then Lake Havasu City, AZ for about 2 1/2 years.  We have lived in the Dallas area for 13 years.

Since there's two "Carolinas," utterly different from each other, what's considered "Down East Carolina"?

In North Carolina or South Carolina?

North Carolina.

Downeast was considered basically everything east of Raliegh at one time, I and many others consider it too be more the Craven, Pamlico, Carteret county areas, with the areas east and northeast of Beaufort NC being Down East.

These areas are rich in old fishing communities and boat building. There are probably more boat builders in that area than many other states have total.

I was in Homer, Alaska a couple years ago.  They have boat junkyards that would put Sanford and Son to shame.

I hear it's nice there this time of year.   :-)

My stepfather is from Duluth.  I hear horror stories about the snow.  My family is from Plainview... I remember a few winters there.

I'm from suburban Philadelphia. I lived at the Delaware beach for about 10 years, then moved back. My wife, children, and I live about 10 miles away from where I was born.

I grew up in the People's Republic of Austin.  Nice town except for that little "junior college (t.u.)" downtown.   :-)  I am currently in exile in Tennessee, south of Nash-lanta.

If they went to Lincoln, the odds are they're University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, although Lincoln does have Wesleyan University and Union College.

And of course they're fun; they're from Nebraska after all.

Too many people get their impressions of Nebraska, their erroneous impressions, from movies such as Children of the Corn or Badlands; we're actually a very joyous group of people, we Nebraskans.

I mean, hey, don't you feel the joy that radiates from BrownEyedGirl and S Downing and me?

Grouchy people we aren't.

I live in Ocala Florida, was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida... then followed my hubby around the world for 20 years while he was in the Army.

So I have lived in England, Germany (twice), Maryland, Georgia, Iowa, Minn. and Hawaii....It's good to finally settle in one place.

Great photograph, S Downing; it shows the utter beauty of the Nebraska landscape.

Nothing like it in the world.

Little place that's holding a golf tournament in April.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
