Why are these machines so cheap?

I was looking on ebay and found a bunch of "OMEGA605 Industrial Strength HEAVY DUTY Sewing Machine" starting at $1 (no reserve.) (The machines are refurbished.) I tried to find user reviews online, but couldn't.

Has anyone ever used one of these? What did you think?

1. I don't know much about them but here's some info

The Omega mechanical sewing machines such as the Omega 605 and the Omega 426 sewing machine are excellent low cost alternatives for the first time sewing machine buyer. Their prices usually fall well under US$200.00 range and since the machines include quite a few features, these prices are an absolute bargain!

OMEGA605 Industrial Strength HEAVY DUTY Sewing machines offer a wide variety of stitches including a complete selection of fancy stitches, utility stitches and stretch stitches.

Some of the Neechi Omega brand sewing machines can do manual embroidery, darning, buttonholes sewing, overcasting, piping, gathering, invisible hems. 1-STEP Button hole creation.

The Omega brand sewing machine models have no plastic gears and everything including the bobbins are made of metal The removable free arm makes for easy sewing of pants hems, sleeves and cuffs..

Omega 605 is a great machine choice for general sewing, manual embroidery, darning, buttonholes sewing, overcasting, piping, gathering, invisible hems. 1-STEP Button hole creation.

While OMEGA MODEL OM426 is more of a starter machine with less of a stitch selection (it offers only 5 fancy stitches in addition to the standard straight stitches), it is still a great bargain for an entry level sewing machine.

The Omega 605 sewing machine accessories include:

4 Metal Bobbins (class 15)
1 Pack of 5 Regular Needles
1 Pack of 3 size 18 Leather Needles
1 Zipper-Cording Foot
1 Cording Foot
1 Gathering Foot
1 Button Foot
1 Buttonhole Foot
1 Satin Foot (plastic or metal)
1 Overcasting Foot
1 Hemmer Foot
1 Blindstitch Foot
1 Darning Foot
1 Quilting Guide
1 Straight Stitching Foot
1 Darning Feed Cover Plate
1 Seam Ripper
1 Lint Brush
1 Oiler
2 Spool Pin Felts
1 Needle Plate Removing Tool
1 Original OMEGA Carrying Case

Okay, experts here--is this a good deal or not?

It sounds too good to be true.

$1 is the starting price at an auction. Expect it to rise before the hammer falls.

One notes that the "buy it now" price for similar models is circa $300.

The current auction price (there are several of these units listed) is around $150.

I would think that the shipping is probably really high on them too.

I've never bough a sewing machine.  The Singer I have now was my grandmother's and my grandfather gave it to me after she died.

The only other sewing machine I've used was my mom's Bernina (which is older than I am, but a wonderful machine).

I'd look at the shipping prices.  I've seen things on ebay that were a good deal, but then they wanted $20 to ship it.

DANG IT !!!! That reminds me. A woman that works with the wife has a friend who is looking for someone to make endtables out of 2 old treadle (think castiron frames) sewing machines. I've kept my mouth shut, haven't mentioned, tried not to bring it to anyones mind but out there somewhere is a woman wanting me to make her 2 fancy table tops for extreme cheap.

You do something nice for someone and all of a sudden it's the old "I know a wonderful craftsman that'll do....."it".......real cheap." I'm neither a "craftsman" nor am I "cheap". I'm just a lazy, hobby, woodworker that will take on a project if it interest me. I've already done the "castiron sewing machine base" to table bit....twice....and I don't want to do it again.
