The plant where I work was initially planned in 1968 with initial startup in 1974. The greenies bitched, and it got delayed.
FINALLY, ground was broken in 1976 (keep in mind that the licensing process took place for 3-4 years prior to that). Construction on Unit 1 was finished in 1986, thanks to a lot of slowdowns by the politicians, cost overruns, redesigns, etc. But even then, the treehuggers managed to keep the plant from going online until 1990.
TWENTY-TWO YEARS, kids. And Unit 2 never got built. The greenies got to be such a pain in the ass and drove the cost of everything sky-high, it actually bankrupted TWO utilities.
