America's Got Talent Winner---from Missouri
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:18:11 PM »
This is heartwarming---local guy makes good. Sikeston is a very small Missouri town. I didn't watch the show, but heard little snatches of his voice on some of the promo blurbs. He's someone to be proud of.

KSDK -- The insurance salesman turned part-time opera singer from Sikeston, Missouri did it.

Neal E. Boyd won the million-dollar prize on the NBC talent showcase "America's Got Talent" Wednesday night. In addition to the million dollars, Boyd will play a show in Las Vegas for one year.

Boyd beat out four additional acts in Wednesday night's season finale, culminating with the elimination of the last act, Eli Mattson.

"I love you mom. I know you're at home watching, I love you so much," Boyd said. "I love you, Sikeston, I love you, Missouri!"

A special congratulations message was prepared for Boyd as well. Opera legend Placido Domingo hailed Neal's talent and called him an inspiration for others.

"What has happened to my life," Boyd said.

Boyd drew national attention in the first episode of the season by singing "Nassun dorma" an aria from Puccini's "Turandot" opera.

That's wonderful! It's nice to see someone with talent like that win.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I had to admit that all 5 finalists deserved to win, for different reasons.  Every elimination broke my heart.

Interestingly, last year's England Has Talent winner was also operatic -- and sang the same song.

I didn't see the show last night but have watched all the other shows this season.

All of the finalists were great but Neal was my favorite from the beginning.

Bet those kids who made fun of the "fat kid" when he was little will now be calling him up and going "hey Neal, bud, let's go get a beer!"   ::)

I do hope good things happen to the rest of the finalists.....they all "got talent" and have much to offer.
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.
