I feel so bad for the guy making minimum wage calling people all day.  I know that job has to suck.  While telemarketers are irritating I don't think they should be tortured for entertainment.  Holy crap I sound like a freak from PETA or something.

I get two calls a day from Countrywide, a call from EBSCO everyday (I don't even know what that is), some card application center, Omaha Steaks several times a week, "toll free calls" daily, XM radio and several "out of area" calls daily as well.  I am so sick of telemarketers.  I don't care who is on the other line making the calls, I want them to leave me alone.  They have started calling later and later too.  It really pisses me off if I'm quilting on my quilting machine or doing something that I have to put down and run to catch the phone....only to see it is a telemarketer. 

I have never been rude to them but I don't know why companies use telemarketing.  Seriously...how many takers do they get?  I have never ever taken a telemarketing call and said, "sure I'm game".  I don't know anyone who has either.  I am also sick of credit card offers I  get in the mail.  If I  am interested in a credit card, I'll contact the CC company.  I had put my number on a do not call list but apparently they are unaware of it or something.

Yes, I did the do not call list again not too long ago.  I don't know what happened.

Even worse than telemarketers, who are at least real people, are the friggin computerized calls.  Those REALLY tick me off!

Guarantee that they'll dry up faster than Amy Winehouse in a Mormon rehab clinic.

I went and checked at the site, my number wasn't registered.  I wonder what I did wrong.     Anyway, I reregistered.

I just recently tried to cancel Vonage.  Equally as annoying....

What started my screening of calls is that my number (that I've had for over 20 years) is one digit placement off from Remax.  The number of real estate phone calls and messages were wigging my phone system out and driving me nuts.  My answering machine message even says "if you're trying to reach Remax or any other real estate company you've dialed the wrong number".  Want to guess how many ignore the message and leave me messages wanting to look at houses or from escrow companies, etc.     dumbasses.  So, now, I screen.  Occasionally though,  I have been known to "set up appointments" to view a house

I finally got "privacy director" from Bellsouth...AT&T now.

It leaves my phone number published, but it screens the calls. Any unidentified call comes through with Privacy Director on the caller ID. It has cut the telemarketing call to zero.

My ex is a doctor and the only ones in the phone book with our last name, are us, our kids and his ex wife. Before he moved out of town, I would get calls all the time from his patients....because I'm listed in the phone book with only my initials...DM. DM is not MD.

I have argued with people that I am not the doctor's office.....because the operator gave them my phone number. I had one guy that was so ugly to me .....he called me 4 times in a row. I finally told him to call 911 or I was going to report him to the police for harassment.

No....only because we hadn't taken the time to put a different ring tone on it.....and I lost the directions to the phone when we moved.  Most of our calls come through on our cell phones. You should be able to get instructions for your phone on the web -- check the manufacturer site or google it.

What I love to do with telemarketers is let them get going on their spiel and immediately act very interested. Then Ill say something like 'Wow! Ive wanted one of those forever. Would you hold on while I grab my credit card?' Then I set the phone down and just walk off. Ill stop back by every few min to see if they are still holding on. Often Ill hear them asking if I'm still there. Its amazing how long some of them will wait. Whats the best part is that tying them up like that keeps them from harassing other people and it costs them $$$ in wasted time.

One of my son's friends tried telemarketing for a while.  Of course, he hated it.  One of the rules was that he could not hang up.  Every call was recorded, and hanging up was an automatic firing...no matter what the "customer" did or said.

I think the kid lasted 2 weeks, which was 13 days longer than I thought he'd make it.
