VERMONT -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

Ben and Jerry's would go out of business if they did that. Not only because of the 'ick' factor but because of the fact that women who actually have to use donated bm versus formula have to usually get a prescription for it(to use a breastmilk bank) and then it is a very difficult to come by because you have to actually have women willing to donate both time(it takes a bit of effort and time to express for this purpose) and the breastmilk--pulling time away from their own infants to do so. Donated Breastmilk is normally reserved for infants with very extreme allergies who can not tolerate most types of formula.  PETA can't be stupid--they know this would doom a company like B and J--not only because of image but because of a weak supply. PETA are freaks...really, not other way to put it. Ben and Jerry may be big social justice types, but they aren't going to go there...nice try though. :lmao:

There might be a lot of "business men" who would be willing to "research"  operating such a "farm".   :-)

They couldn't convince people to stop drinking cows milk with their "Got Cancer" ad that showed Rudy Guiliani wearing a milk mustache...so now they are trying this publicity stunt.
