Who ever checks to see how fast their electric meter is running?

A few days ago, I was working in the yard with my daughter and her boyfriend. He happened to walk by the meter and called to me, "What do you have going in the house right now? The meter is going awfully fast" My answer? Nothing that I can think of.

Well, after they left I looked around and sure enough, no lights were on. I started to think about it and decided to find our what I really had running. (some things were off but I now know they stay on)

Upstairs:
2 clocks
TV
VCR.
Electric toothbrush

Downstairs:
Microwave
Refrigerator
TV
DVD/VCR
radio,CD player
Computer
monitor
printer
modem.

I flipped every power strip, unplugged the microwave, made sure all lights were off, waited for the refrig to shut off, then went to look at the meter. It was hardly moving.

I am now making it a point to keep everything switched off except for the BR clock and the refrig.
Never would I have expected that I was using so much electricity when I thought I was trying to conserve. I use the microwave once a day to heat coffee and since Comcast chose to remove MSNBC from our line-up, I hardly turn the TV on. Never use the DVD/VCR.

I will be anxious to see my next electric bill . Our rates are high anyway, and with winter approaching, I will use more electricity but I will train myself to keep the other stuff off.

If the primitive's electric rates are very high, one suspects the primitive lives in a blue state.

1. I used to watch it when I was a kid because it would always start turning fast when the fridge compressor turned on or my mother started to burn food on the electric stove. Microwaves are also power hogs.

I do have just about everything on power strips now because of the storms we get here in the desert. I flip off everything but the TV/DVD because it's a nuisance to reprogram them every time I turn them on.

I dunno.

Yeah, one has to admit that at times the warped primitive does have a slight sense of humor.

Generally though, the warped primitive tends to be sour and dour, the effects of being a woman but never having been told one is beautiful.  The warped primitive is one of these women stocky and sturdy, square face and jaw, muscles, built like a brick house, and a few hints of facial hair and a mustache.

A good man to have on one's side when in a barroom brawl or stuck in the snow.

The warped primitive is the prime reason why, whenever I encounter a manly-looking woman who doesn't want to look that way, and wishes she weren't that way, I find something beautiful about her to compliment.

I don't want them to end up sour and dour, bitter and angry, like the warped primitive because a man never said something nice to them.

No mention as to whether they turned off the lights in the hydro lab.

Mr. Franksolich, may I say, that never a more finer gentleman have I ever come across.

You are truly a gift to this world, sir.

When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing -- then we truly live life.

The biggest user of electricity in my house is the water heater. Followed by the AC(s). Then the fridge, then the chest freezer...That's not even bothering to include appliances that use less than 1000watts.

When I run my 5000watt stillwater purifier as well as the other stuff, the velocity of the edge of that disk in the meter must be approaching the speed of light  :-)

After the two water heaters, the pump in the well, two freezers and a fridge take their cut, the amount vampired off by the small electronics isn't worth screwing with by comparison.

The answer to our electric needs is to not build any new coal/oil/nat gas/nuclear generating plants.  In addition there should be an order of magnitude increase in taxes so power usage will go down.

The Obama/Pelosi/Reid energy plan in two sentences.

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
