Just a personal note.
So I had to get food stamps this month.

Not much else to say. We have a one income family, we are gay, and we struggle, we can only afford to rent. I'm 32, and this is not what I thought my life would be like growing up under the "American Dream".

We work damn hard...and yet, we just can't make it.

Does anyone else feel like the failure that I do?

Ugh. I usually keep my chin up, but it's been hard this week.

Without DU, I think I'd go nuts. At least we're in this together, and I'm campaigning like hell for Obama. I need hope.

3. Thanks...
...I mean, I qualified, so it's not a big deal. It's just kind of shocking that I actually qualified with a full-time job! That just shows what a shitter our economy is in.

But I'm sure going to enjoy getting more food. It's been skimpy here for a while.

9. What's super frustrating
is that my parents ARE the rich...but my "lifestyle choice" ahem, doesn't allow them to support me in anyway. GARGH!

Stupid fundies. At least they might vote for Obama...they vacillate. But I'm doing my best.

UMmmm... Wait a sec...  Let's rewind shall we?:

11. keep working
maybe your partner could get a job working for the campaign. the person who leads the section where i volunteer WAS a volunteer during the primaries, now he is in a paid position. why not?

don't give up hope. and don't allow yourself to feel lessened by using food stamps. millions of people use them, millions more should be using them, and they are there to make sure you eat well. in the richest country on earth it's a scandal that so many do need them. but you did not create this situation.

i've experienced great hardship in my life. http://www.geocities.com/bbalesgeo/3696.html
from my diary back in the day.

just keep on trucking, and writing, and working. things will improve, hopefully soon
Maybe your "Partner" could get a ****ing JOB. Period.

No, idiot, that shows what a "shitter" our welfare system is in.  Even those who don't need it can get it.

Another loser thats made many bad life choices and is now trying to support himself/herself/it AND a SO on a minimum wage job. Sounds more like their life rather than the economy is in the shitter. Prolly has broadband to connect to DU as well.

Just imagine the economic impact on our society if these couples were given full "family" rights.
The social service, taxation and medical insurance implications alone are frightening.

You're at DU!!!  You hit the jackpot of indivudals who are the biggest failures on the planet, it just varies in degrees and who among them are willing (like you) to actually admit it.

My kid called me yesterday from College.  He got a "work study" job at school from his photography teacher.  He worked two days then had to go to admin to finish the paperwork and they told him that his parents made too much money so he was ineligible to participate in the work study program.  He was pretty upset because his teacher can't find anyone who will work for him and my son really enjoyed working in the photography department.

We can't take any of the costs of his college off our taxes because "we make too much money", we are also losing other deductions because "we make too much money", we didn't get the "tax rebate" because "we make too much money", my son can't get a job on campus because "we make too much money".  They think we should pay more taxes so the OP and his partner can collect more welfare when he has a partner that isn't working.  My son actually wants to work, but again, "we make too much money".

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Do you know what's sad to me? In my grandfather's time the above would mean that even though things weren't going good for them financially they're still happy.

Why do they have to use the word "gay"? Does homosexual have too many syllables? Frankly, it seems that most of them are the complete opposite of the original definition of "gay" unless the original definition was "miserable and pissed with normal folks".
