Into the wild of Wasilla, Alaska, where Sarah Palin once ruled

Advertisements [?]Steve Lopez visit Wasilla, I enjoyed his short vid and his take on Palin.

"Can anyone feel good about supporting a vice presidential candidate who ruled a town with worse municipal planning than we have in Los Angeles?"

Into the wild of Wasilla, Alaska, where Sarah Palin once ruled

WASILLA, ALASKA -- I almost ran into a moose on the way to Sarah Palin's hometown.

There I was, headed up the highway out of Anchorage, when suddenly drivers were slamming on their brakes as Bullwinkle humped across the road.

At the airport I'd asked for a mid-size car, and they gave me an SUV. Now it was becoming clear why: A Camry wouldn't have a fighting chance against a moose.

Maybe it was a sign that I wasn't welcome in Palin country and should go back home to California. But just six years after she was mayor of Wasilla, a town of fewer than 10,000 residents, Palin could become vice president of the United States. I wanted to get a better sense of her by seeing the place that launched her onto the world stage.
>>>snip

Some towns have character. Some have a sense of place.

And then there is Wasilla, which greets visitors with Wal-mart, Target, Lowe's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Carl's Jr., McDonald's and Taco Bell.

They paved paradise, and all they've got to show for it is chalupas and discount tube socks.

>>>snip

This is downtown Wasilla," she said.

I expected better, Sarah. I really did.

Verne Rupright's law office is also on Main Street. He used to be a planning commissioner -- a position I'm not sure I'd admit to, having seen this place. Now he is one of five people running for mayor, a job with more cachet since it's become a steppingstone to bigger and better things. Rupright admits the "downtown" area is no model city, with too much traffic and no real center. He'd like to fix that, he said, and the city sewer system is a mess too.

But don't blame Palin, he said, calling her a good mayor and a smart cookie. The town just grew too fast.

>>>snip

But as I slogged through heavy traffic on my way out of Wasilla, assaulted by one eyesore development after another, I had an even more critical question for voters:

Can anyone feel good about supporting a vice presidential candidate who ruled a town with worse municipal planning than we have in Los Angeles?

From wiki...

Wasilla was established in 1917 with the construction of the Alaska Railroad.
...

The town of Wasilla was incorporated in 1974.
...

As of the 2000 census, its population was 5,469, but the 2007 estimate gives a population of 9,780.
...

Sarah Palin served two terms (1996–2002) as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

Oh, yeah, I can see his point.  The municipal planning for this city is quite obviously 100% Sarah Palin's fault.  Srsly.

::)  I guess they're hitting the bottom of the slime barrel by now.   ::)

So the Bradley Effect has nothing to do with race but with piss poor management.

I can get behind that.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Minus the moose ambling across the road, does he realize he describes 80% if small towns in America?   He totally talks down to a HUGH <snicker> chunk of the population.  What a tool.

Notice, that this moonbat didn't gravitate to the Target, Wallmart or other place of business where free markets still rule, and all participants profit.  He gravitated to an ATTORNEY'S office.  Dare I say, illustrative of what's wrong with the moonbat mind?

First of all,who in their right minds goes to Alaska not knowing what it's even remotely like up there ? Even during Summer it's not always warmer then 65 on average and then to top it off the animals up there outnumber the people and just like in the lower 48 you have a good chance of hitting a Moose just like you have hitting a deer in most places in the lower 48. The difference between the moose and deer is that you'll always loose hitting a moose.
