Learned today that both of my sons have joined the army
Advertisements [?]I knew my youngest son did a few weeks ago (for those not in the know - I had not seen or spoken to my boys for 9 years, after the X died I have finally connected with two of the three of them - ages 22, 19, 17).

My oldest son will head to boot camp in a few weeks, my youngest next June after graduation.

Main reason my oldest is going in is for the job security, sign on bonus, insurance, etc.

I support their decisions, but given the climate, it of course concerns me.

They tend to be RW'ers and I am trying to have open and honest discussions with them on political matters (they tend to like rush a lot...). Given that their step dad was abusive and rw and their mom was rw I can see where they get it from.

I will be keeping a lot of info I get here on DU to share with them, but in the end they are adults (well, one will be in Feb.) and I will respect and support them in their choice.

But that doesn't mean I won't be discussing my own views with them - which is why I want to say a hearty thank you to the many here who keep posting really insightful and educational information on everything from the war to politics in general.

If the economy gets much worse I can see a lot more people signing up...

Anybody know the back story on this statement? The other thing I'm wondering is when the  primitives will start calling TSS's kids "war criminals"? This one comes close!

4. Oh no.
Sorry, but I do think it's terrible. Honestly, I don't think the military has anything to do with "defense" or our national "security" any more, and, I'll be honest, I don't think it's a noble mission.
Still, I understand that economic times are VERY tough.

I hope they stay safe.

I could guess and probably be right.  There aren't a lot of reasons why parents don't see or talk to their kids for 9 years.

What a great parent you are you loser.  ::) You deserve no say in what your kids do or think.  Do them a favor, stay out of their lives like you have for the past 9 years.

I was thinking the same thing.  Maybe a year got knocked off for good behavior?

Yeah, the stepdad was abusive and rw and he is just the poor father who did not see them for 9 years. Let's here the background story there. I know women can be real bitches in a divorce, but 9 years of not seeing one's children would take some effort I think.

Count on it, this TSS kook will consistently hound his two kids with anti-American trash and soon they'll wish the last 9 years could be made perpetual.

My guess would be TSS is not allowed to live near schools and inform the state when he moves.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I can't help but believe this stranger will have very little influence in these young men's lives.  I'm sure this "dad" being a complete moran moonbat will be more of a source of humor and less of inspiration.

A very weird person (goes without saying) and I remembered this little woe is me screed from last winter.

Well, i give up. I messed up, I am getting punished for it - and yet bush is walking free
   Advertisements [?]

I blame only me for this. I screwed up. I had a driver's license from Ohio which I thought was good until October of this year. I was wrong (I live in CA now). I kept that license because I thought I may end up moving back there (and even applied for jobs back there as I am not finding much here).

Today I rolled through a stop sign, no one else around. And got pulled over.

They gave me a ticket for that, which I deserved. But then I come to find out my license was expired. So they took it and my car (and won't let me have it back for 30 days, and that will cost me plenty - and I am out of work).

Never had a ticket in my life, and I am 42. I have worked hard, been a good person I think, and now I am facing a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license - and I have lost my car.

We can't go to the store, money is short, and the job I was hoping to get I probably won't now (had good offers up north and in Ohio, but was trying to stay local so my wife could be close to her family).

I have never hurt anyone, never waged war based on lies, and have lived a pretty simple life I thought. And now I am a criminal with no car all because I made a simple mistake.

I admit I was wrong. For the first time in 20 some years I made a mistake while driving. And since I was not in Ohio I did not get the notice to renew (and I don't spend all day reading my license, last time I did I would have swore I had until October to renew it).

Now I am ****ed seven ways to Sunday. No car now. No job. No way to pay for the impound and ticket.

I spent last night working out ways to start my own business, and woke up today feeling good about life. Dropped off my little girl and was on the way home, and then this.

bush is out there killing thousands based on lies, and he has a private driver and a chef to cook for him, not to mention health care we have paid for.

Will this hell I have been in the last 4 years ever end? Death after death, sickness, and now this.

All the while bush sits pretty and no one will even try to impeach him.

I run a stop sign (well, I did slow way down) with no one around and I lose it all.

I guess I am getting what I deserve.

When will bush?

I have cried as much today as when my mom died, I just lost all hope I had. And yeah - I am pissed. I made some minor infractions and it will ruin my life, while bush and crew screw people over and kill them and they walk free.

The 'law' only applies to the little folks. The big folks in life can kill people and walk free - all the while having money taken from our paychecks and given to them.

I'll pay for my mistakes, as I should. What I am mad about is that some folks won't. And the people we elected to make them pay for their mistakes have abandoned us.

**** that.

So it's OK to be what they consider a "murdering baby-killer" if you need the money? That's different, I guess. But it's all Bush's fault anyway!  That's the DUmmies, country self first. (Not the boys, I'm sure with good RW parents, they know why they're joining---to serve their country).

Not as tough as they were for young junior enlisted in the mid 90's when there were stories every other day about how they were so underpaid they were having to apply for food stamps.

Now refresh my memory...who was the CINC at that time?
