For the 2028 primary season, the Democrats are having an internal battle over the first-in-the-nation status, and it has devolved into some nasty racial politics, because of course it has. This is what Democratic Party voters live, breathe, and fight about, because the only way to overcome racism is to think about race every second of the day, and have nightmares about microaggressions at night.

South Carolina and Nevada have emerged as the two front-runners to begin the 2028 Democratic presidential nominating calendar, but their jockeying has grown acrimonious and pitted Black and Latino party leaders against each other, according to interviews with more than a dozen party officials involved in the discussions.

A powerful panel of 49 insiders of the Democratic National Committee is set to meet this week in Washington to sketch out the order of the early-state calendar. The full party body would then vote next month to finalize the choices.

“It’s almost like we’re running against Nevada,” Christale Spain, the chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, said in an interview. “That’s what it feels like.”

“If Nevada gets elevated over South Carolina, it would be because of their Latino vote,” added Ms. Spain, who is Black. “So you would then be telling Black voters that you matter less than brown voters. And I refuse to believe that our party wants to send any type of message like that.”

The vulnerability of being a coalition of special interests is when you have groups who see each other as competition for and fight over goodies and privileges.

That's why Democrats always say things like "We can all agree the most important thing is defeating Donald Trump".  The groups that make up the Democrats' voting base aren't unified - not in any profound sense.

Without a common enemy, the big tent is in danger of blowing away.

Fifth Circuit Rules Illegal Aliens Do Not Have Constitutional Right To Roam Free In US

The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled late Tuesday that illegal aliens do not have the constitutional right to roam the nation during their removal proceedings.

The ruling, led by Chief Judge Jennifer Elrod, appointed by George W. Bush, overturned the lower court’s decision granting bond hearings and releasing three illegal immigrants from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, putting the lower court’s orders on hold pending a full appeal.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Division’s Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate said the decision makes clear that “illegal aliens do not have a constitutional right to roam free in the United States during their removal proceedings.”

Shumate said Tuesday’s decision sets an “extraordinary precedential order” that will be used in similar cases going forward.

Strictly speaking, I think this ruling is only binding in the 5th Circuit. However it may be used as guidance in other circuits.

Summer Lee and Ilhan Omar Pooled Brain Cells for ‘Bomb’ Attack on Fellow Democrat—It Didn’t Go Well

Lee (PA-12) kicked off the festivities Tuesday afternoon by quote-tweeting Rep. Josh Gottheimer’s (NJ-5) post criticizing the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

"They’re socialists, who want to hijack the Democratic Party," Gottheimer explained on X. "The Democrats have a big tent. That’s our strength. We embrace a range of ideas—but there’s no room for anti-American bomb-throwers who oppose our ideas, values, & leaders."

(Side note—Nah, bro. Anti-American bomb-throwers have completely overtaken your party).

Lee pounced on the comments. She shouldn't have.

"What about Dems who sign bombs and vote to drop them?" she countered.

One can imagine Lee quietly closing her laptop, grin plastered across her face, knowing she had basically just ended her moderate colleague. But lo, what do we have here?

No worries, however. Omar (MN-5) decided to weigh in, calmly pointing out Lee's mistake, suggesting she apologize, and then pivoting to a more reasonable argument.

“He signed the bombs you voted to be dropped. Hope this helps!” she countered, apparently thinking she was defending Lee’s point.

Again, another intellectually vapid response complete with snark, and you just know she also, without a doubt, closed her laptop and nodded her own approval at the devastating takedown she had unleashed.

Sadly for her, not only did the Shapiro event have nothing to do with Israel, but Gottheimer had to point out that Omar had, in fact, also voted in favor of the bill.

All it took for Summer Lee and Ilhan Omar to HATE Gottheimer is the fact that he is Jewish.
