Damn, the primitives are stupid.
The Code of Hammurabi was actually humane, not bestial.
Before that time, punishment for a crime was based upon the whim and caprice of the person passing judgement; a person, for example, could be sentenced to death for stealing a piece of wax.
The Code of Hammurabi was devised to correct that injustice; the punishment should not be greater than the crime.
Thus "an eye for an eye," meaning that if someone robbed one person of an eye, he couldn't be punished by losing both of his own eyes; he could be punished only to the extent of the damage done the other person.
Damn, the primitives are stupid, just really stupid.
I can understand Doug's ex-wife being so stupid, but not some of the other primitives.
