The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is facing allegations of misleading viewers after its program “Panorama” broadcast an edited version of President Donald Trump’s January 6, 2021, speech, according to a report published Monday by The Telegraph. The report cited a 19-page dossier by Michael Prescott, a former external adviser to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee, which detailed alleged bias in the state-funded broadcaster’s coverage of multiple political and social issues.Prescott’s dossier reportedly claims that “Panorama” presented a distorted version of Trump’s remarks delivered near the White House, editing the footage to imply he encouraged violence at the Capitol.
A longtime BBC anchor said the majority of board members who control the British broadcaster feel it has "a problem of institutional bias reflected in the coverage" of President Donald Trump. The BBC has been engulfed in criticism over a BBC Panorama documentary about Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021, speech that he delivered before the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Critics say the documentary was misleading because it omitted Trump urging supporters to protest peacefully, and the BBC director-general Tim Davie and BBC News and Current Affairs chief Deborah Turness both stepped down in recent days amid the growing controversy. Trump’s legal team sent a scathing notice of intent to bring a civil action lawsuit on Sunday to the BBC, demanding that "false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements" made about Trump must be retracted immediately or else he will file a $1 billion lawsuit.
BBC anchor speaks out on growing ‘crisis,’ says majority of board feels ‘institutional bias’ against Trump
...The BBC is running scared. The same BBC that turned a blind eye on Jimmy Savile.
LONDON (AP) — The BBC’s top leader and head of its news division resigned over criticism of how the broadcaster edited U.S President Donald Trump’s speech before some of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021....Here’s a look at some controversies or scandals that have forced out some of the BBC’s leaders:November 2012: George Entwistle resigned as director-general over the Newsnight program’s decision not to run a report that entertainer Jimmy Savile, one of its most popular presenters who had died the previous year, was a serial sexual abuser of young women. The broadcaster had also wrongly linked a prominent politician to child sex abuse. ...April 2023: BBC Chairman Richard Sharp quit after a report found he failed to disclose a potential conflict of interest over his role in arranging a loan more than two years earlier for Prime Minister Boris Johnson. ...2021: Davie apologized after a report found that Martin Bashir had used fake bank records to deceive Princess Diana’s brother to land his explosive interview with her in 1995. ...July 2023: Huw Edwards, the highest paid news anchor, was suspended with full pay over allegations he paid a teen for sexually explicit photos. He later pleaded guilty and was given a suspended prison sentence ...June 2025: BBC is condemned for livestreaming a performance by rap punk duo Bob Vylan, who led crowds at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in chanting “death” to the Israeli military. ...October 2025: Britain’s media regulator sanctioned the BBC for a “materially misleading” documentary on the lives of children in Gaza because it failed to disclose that the father of the teen narrator held a position in the Hamas administration.
Funny how it was the Trump thing that cost BBC director-general Tim Davie and his head of news, Deborah Turness, their jobs. Of course, doctoring footage of The Donald’s ‘January 6’ speech, to make it appear as if he had explicitly incited the Capitol riot, was remarkably egregious and brazen, a prime example of the BBC deciding not to bother with the mask for once. But what about its relentless bias – also exposed by that recent internal memo leaked to the Telegraph – against Jews and Israel?...To appreciate the scale of the BBC’s Israel problem, you have to get into the details. The memo is rather extensive, so here are its main points:BBC Arabic had very little reporting on Israeli suffering at the hands of Hamas or criticism of the terror group.BBC Arabic devoted huge swathes of articles to statements from Hamas and Hezbollah, denying factually accurate stories.BBC Arabic described Hamas’s terror attacks as ‘military operations’ and barely covered the deaths of Israeli hostages.BBC Arabic published fake news, such as Iranian and Syrian claims that Israel had staged an attack on children in the Golan as a pretext for attacking Hezbollah.BBC Arabic gave a platform to journalists who had openly glorified terrorism hundreds of times, but inaccurately downplayed them as ‘eyewitnesses’ in a public statement. The BBC as a whole gave ‘unjustifiable weight’ to Hamas casualty figures....BBC Newsnight repeated the false claim that ‘14,000 babies’ would die within ‘48 hours’ even though it had already been exposed as false. In the same programme, it also aired pictures of an emaciated child as an example of starvation, even though they had already been exposed as showing a congenital oesophageal condition.Various BBC platforms spread fake news about starvation in Gaza and were sometimes forced to make corrections.BBC News did not inform viewers that, under international law, hospitals were allowed to be targeted when they were being used as military bases.
