5 Freeway could be shut down due to concerns for live fire during military event at Camp Pendleton

Parts of the 5 Freeway could be shut down between Los Angeles and San Diego beginning Friday due to concerns of live fire during a military event off Camp Pendleton's coast.

Missiles fired by Navy ships and massive military maneuvers are said to be planned as part of the Marine Corps' 250th anniversary celebration.

Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are both scheduled to attend the event titled "Sea to Shore - A Review of Amphibious Strength".

The event could include Navy ships firing live military ordinance over the 5 Freeway and onto Camp Pendleton.

As a result, the 5 Freeway could be closed from Friday to Saturday between Los Angeles and San Diego for an unknown amount of time, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The article implies a continuous shutdown 1-2 day shut down. What will likely happen is a 1-3 hour shutdown solely during the live-fire part of the event. Of course, Progs hate the US military and knee-jerkingly oppose any celebration thereof.

A few hours after Newsom’s X post, the Marine Corps released a statement on the platform saying its weekend exercises would not require shutting down the freeway.

“All training events will occur on approved training ranges and comport with established safety protocols,” the announcement read. “No public highways or transportation routes will be closed. In advance of the training event and demonstration, we conducted a detailed risk assessment.”

And it would be California imposing any shutdown, not the military:

California Department of Transportation spokesman Edward Barrera said Wednesday that, based on “potential scenarios shared with us by the federal government,” the agency was prepared to shut down a section of Interstate 5 for the safety of California motorists.
