Quote
When we argued that Joe Biden couldn't have possibly cut this deal, we had no idea how correct we had been.

To some surprise, Hamas actually and finally gave up its last remaining living hostages today. In doing so, they also parted with the last bit of leverage they have in order to come out of the war they launched two years ago with any sort of face-saving concessions. So why did they agree to this capitulation? Donald Trump left them no choice, having cut off every other diplomatic and military option, as the Wall Street Journal reports today:

Quote
Egypt and Qatar told Hayya the deal was his last chance to end the war, according to the officials. They pressed Hamas to understand that holding the hostages was becoming a strategic liability, giving Israel a source of legitimacy to keep fighting.

The next day, joined by Turkey, they warned him that if Hamas didn’t approve the plan it would be stripped of all political and diplomatic cover; Qatar and Turkey would no longer host the group’s political leadership, and Egypt would stop pressing for Hamas to have a say in Gaza’s postwar governance, the officials said.

Trump won this war in June, when he made an unapologetic decision to intervene with military strikes in Iran. Those strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities completely shook up the order in the region, which had settled into an Iranian track toward dominance. Israel had already done most of the damage by wiping out Hezbollah's upper echelons and their banking system, which led directly to the fall of Bashar al-Assad and the rise of a new Syrian regime that detests the mullahs in Iran. However, the strikes by Trump on Iran forced everyone to reconsider their assumptions and recalculate for a president who had no problem ordering military force to defend and protect American interests.
...
The Biden Regency would never have flexed power in that fashion. Biden's handlers wanted a Grand Deal with the Tehran mullahs and spent four years attempting to appease them enough to get a re-do of the JCPOA, Barack Obama's useless Iran deal. Less than five months after taking office, Trump made clear that those days were over, and that message resonated in every capital in the Middle East.

LIEden & minions also still worshipped at the altar of the chimeric Two-State Solution.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.

Apparently the inept former Secretary of State Blinky and the cadaverous Jake Sullivan were doing the rounds on the unwatchable Sunday morning shows, and were claiming credit for the deal. Well here's the reason you didn't make it: It gave Israel more than you were ever willing to.

Sometimes diplomacy from a different tactic works far better than your foreign policy bona fides and academic/think tank credentials. It takes an unorthodox dealmaker to solve problems.

Dem and Foggy Bottom policy since at least Obama, if not during Clinton's MalAdministration, has been the perpetuation of a status quo in which Israel was constantly rocketed and shelled and raided until their chimeric Two-State Solution somehow magically happened. Israel had the temerity to push back against LIEden's efforts to stop Israel from dishing out FAFO to Hamas. Whether Israel believed that Trump or some other R was likely to become President in January 2025 or they simply decided that Hamas had crossed a line and Israel was going to fight back regardless of US pressure, I don't know.

Israel's nearly 2 years of hitting Hamas, September 2024 decapitation of Hezbollah (I think Israel knew by then that LIEden would/could not react negatively and decisively), Israel's hits on Iranian military capacity and leadership (after Trump became President), the USAF's hits on Iran's nuclear program, and Trump's diplomatic efforts in the Arab world (plus Turkey) left Hamas severely damaged and isolated from international military and diplomatic aid.

Mentioned a few weeks ago in one of CC27's threads that I was re-reading Victor Davis Hanson's excellent 2020 book "The Case for Trump". Re-reading it just reinforces all the nasty shit that the Democrat and D.C establishment has been pulling behind the scenes for decades and why any successes by President Trump are undermined and dismissed as amateurish by the "elitists".

Speaking of D.C. establishment douche bags, one of the biggest of all spouted this horse manure today:

Former Obama Official Ben Rhodes Can’t Bring Himself To Give Trump Credit For Israel-Hamas Deal

Former Obama administration official Ben Rhodes brushed off the deal President Donald Trump brokered between Israel and the radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas as “just a cease-fire” Monday during a MSNBC appearance.

Hamas released the 20 surviving hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on multiple locations in southern Israel that killed over 1,200 people on Monday. Rhodes, the architect of then-President Barack Obama’s deal with Iran over its nuclear weapons program, was asked by MSNBC host Ana Cabrera if he thought Trump could see it through.

“I give Trump credit for essentially finally applying some leverage on the Israeli government, on Bibi Netanyahu in particular, in a way that, you know, frankly, we didn’t even see President Biden do when he was in office,” Rhodes claimed. “And I think simultaneously, Qatar and Turkey were applying a lot of leverage on Hamas. And then that got us into the ceasefire. That’s terrific. It’s great that the Israeli hostages are reunited with their families, that aid is getting to Gaza. I would not go as far as to say that this kind of validates a certain, you know, theory of diplomacy, because frankly, it’s just a ceasefire. The problem has not been solved.”

“It’s not really a peace deal in the sense that we still don’t know who’s going to govern Gaza. We still don’t know if Hamas is going to disarm,” Rhodes continued. “We’re at phase one, quite literally, of what would be a very long road to some kind of lasting peace. So, look, I think a transactional — and, you know, it’s interesting to reflect on that quote you put up, I mean, a transactional style of diplomacy, it can get you that kind of short-term win, right? You know, you take care of a piece of business, but it’s not necessarily designed for the kind of patient follow-through and painstaking work that is necessary to address something as deep as the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians.”

Trump terminated the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran in May 2018, calling it “a horrible deal that should never, ever have been made.” The 2015 agreement faced backlash from critics of the deal claiming it “paved the road” for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. The Biden administration sought to reinstate the deal as part of a more conciliatory approach toward Iran, which included freeing up $6 billion in money from oil sales that were being held by South Korea in exchange for the release of five Americans being held in Iran. Biden also eased sanctions on Iran, allowing the country to export more oil and also allowed Iraq to purchase electricity from Iran.

Smarmy ****tard. He's one of the former 0bama/Biden clowns I'd like to punch in the *****, because pieces of excrement such as him have zero balls, literally and figuratively.

What a weasel, claiming the peace deal is just a cease fire and a couples sentences later stating that it remains to be seen if Hamas disarms, which is one of the stages of the peace deal.

This claim by Rhodes is equine manure as rancid as it is deep:

In the real world LIEden & minions were constantly pressuring Netanyahu and Israel to stop attacking Hamas and suspended deliveries to Israel of certain key munitions as an arm-twisting effort.
