The left's response to the assassination follows the same pattern as their damaage control response to anything that makes them look bad: Throw out any argument you can, even if they're blatantly false, and even if they contradict one another. In one instance, they'll say they condemn violence. In another, they'll say Kirk deserved it. In yet another, they'll say it was a MAGA assassin. In rare cases, they may even say it was all staged. And so on. A different explanation every week. All the hallmarks of people who don't have any good arguments.
