well, Orson Welles  wasn't exactly a stick himself but I have heard that Garbo was considered too fat to be an American actress a century ago, and she teamed up with some weird doctor and lost thirty pounds and kept it off. I saw the diet plan once, there was some really gross bread product she ate.
