If Texas falls, it is the end of America.

First and foremost, thank you to EVERYONE, EVERY WHERE who has helped Texas over the last two weeks. I am in awe of the risk that some in other states have been willing to take to shelter the Democratic representatives etc. I appreciate all of the good thoughts and ideas that I see on DU that pertain to Texas.

If Abbott is successful in getting the districts gerrymandered as he wants, and he probably ultimately will be, then there will essentially be only ONE party left in Texas. That party will be MAGA and every decision, every move, every bill and every steal of Donald Trump will simply be rubber stamped by the Republican shitholes in Texas. We will no longer have Democracy here. As Rachel has said many times, "it's not coming; it's here".

Texas is ground zero and always has been. If Texas falls, it is the blueprint for every other red state in the Union. Donald Trump is not renovating the White House thinking he's leaving in three years. He's turning it into a Trump trashy-ass property because he plans to be there for a while. You think he's going to die? Well, some day he will, but with the best medical care that money can buy, I am not holding my breath. And even when he does, there is already a dynasty working to be put in place.

This all saddens me and scares me. I'm old, and the stress and angst is not a good thing for any of us who are watching our rights be stolen away, piece by piece, one by one. But I'm not giving up.

So, I beg you all - please continue to support what the Texas Democrats are doing as if they were your very own. Because YOUR future depends on it, too.

Hugs and good wishes to all. We will continue to fight the good fight in my beloved Texas.

Yeah, keep supporting those democrats who ran away.  The ones that should be in Texas voting for flood relief for Kerrville and the surrounding areas.

Wait until some of the democrats in those areas don't get what they need because their representative ran away and refused to help them.  That should work out great!

If Republicans did the same in Massachusetts, Illinois, Maryland, and Connecticut, the Democrat Party and the media (but I repeat myself) would be calling them insurrectionist extremist MAGA fleebaggers.

Just for clarity:

Massachusetts: 9 U.S. Representatives, all Democrats (36% voted Republican in 2024 Presidential Election)

Illinois: 17 House Members, 14 Democrat/3 Republican (43.5% voted Republican)

Maryland: 8 House Members, 7 Democrat/1 Republican (34.1% Republican)

Connecticut: 5 House Members, all Democrat (41.9% Republican)

Yes, other states with mostly Republican House members do the same (Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi, Oklahoma).

Just draw the maps fairly without racial preferences. Take a gander at Illinois' House map:

While I'm still not sure if the redistricting is really necessary, the Democrats running away, abandoning their duties, and playing political theater is  :bs:

Yeah pretty sure gerrymandering is a nationwide issue.  But like so many other issues, it leaves both parties something to throw a fit about when distractions and showboating are needed.

So, that skinny blue district that runs a quarter of the length of IL, does it follow I55 and I72, using the unpopulated freeway rights of way to link otherwise isolated Dem bastions?

IIRC, going East to West, it carves out the area between the capital of Springfield all the way down to East St. Louis, both of which are Democratic bastions in the otherwise Republican downstate of Illinois. If the districts were fairly and logically set up, all of downstate Illinois would be Republican seats.

The corpulent J.B. "Sir-Cumference" Pritzker claims that all these maps were drawn up by an "independent commission" (WINK, WINK). That is so laughable that even Stevie COAL-bert apparently mocked him this week when the fat bastard Pritzker waddled onto his show.

I thought Bush v. Gore was the end of America. That's the whole reason that DU was born.

Well, one never knows. Democrat Ann "Ma" Richards was the Goobernor of Texas at the end of my college years. She is most remembered for her line about President George H.W. Bush at the 1988 Democrat convention: "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth".

The DUchebag is right though. If the red states gerrymander like the blue states do it is a decades long lock on the HOR. The blue states can't really gerrymander anymore than they have already. Whereas the red states have been much more fair and there is lots of pickup for republicans. If they go with the democrat system then it's lights out donkeys.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Assuming you're a citizen, with no outstanding warrants, would you be so kind as to list a few of these "rights" stolen from you?

Don Lemon Nods Along as Democrat Likens GOP Map to the Holocaust [WATCH]

https://www.drewberquist.com/2025/08/don-lemon-nods-along-as-democrat-likens-gop-map-to-the-holocaust-watch/

Quote
State Rep. Jolanda Jones (D-TX) compared Texas Republicans’ redistricting efforts to the Holocaust during an interview Tuesday on “The Don Lemon Show” podcast, where the former CNN host appeared to nod in agreement as she made the statement.

Jones is one of over 50 Democratic lawmakers who fled the state earlier this week to block a scheduled vote on redistricting by denying quorum in the Texas House of Representatives.

The group traveled to states including Illinois and New York in an effort to delay the Republican-led redrawing of congressional districts.

Speaking on Lemon’s podcast, Jones warned of what she described as dangerous consequences if Republican redistricting efforts proceed, comparing the situation to events leading up to the Holocaust.

“I will liken this to the Holocaust,” Jones said.

The depth of Dems' stupidity defies being plumbed.
