Help! My credit card fraud claim was denied.
BofA raised my credit limit because a 3rd party requested it. They raised it to $15,000 and then the 3rd party charged $15,000 against my card. I called them first thing in the morning and reported it.

My whole identity was stolen. Not just my credit. I had to change my phone number and that has been just a mess.

Do I need to get an attorney specializing in credit card fraud? I can't pay this. It's not mine so I wouldn't pay it anyway.

I am lost.

I smell a go fund me soon. I am also sure there is much much more to this story.

Wow! The thread is about 2 hours old, and no one has blamed trump or Musk for the identity theft!

As someone with intimate knowledge and experience with this sort of thing, it is a major inconvenience and scary, but this DUmmy will not be required to pay for provable fraud.

I have zero evidence, but what if the bank suspects she made the request to increase the limit and then made the charge to fraudulently claim she's a victim in order to charge off the debt?

That happens, and is why these things take time to adjudicate.

This. Is. A. WHOPPER. Of. A. Lie.

1. You have to go through hoops ti get a credit limit increase (& I have 845 FICO)
2. If you were to get that credit limit increase, the issuing company would never pay out the new credit maximum. NEVER
3. The DUchebag doesn't have the FICO or income to get a $15K credit limit increase.

So I predict the DUmbass DUmmys will fall for this BS hook, line, and sinker.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Those are good points. The whole story is probably made up to lay the groundwork for what we call an MVD maneuver.

Whatever form of VD it is, I'm sure she has it.

I wonder if the 3rd Party was a spouse or offspring? Then it might not be fraud if, at some point, permission was given to use the card. Might be considered a family issue.

I don't get this and never heard of this.  Some rando 3rd party called up the bank and requested to have some stranger's credit limit raised by a significant amount?  And the bank just does it?  And lets the charge go through, no questions asked?  Come on!

Coupla DUmmies in the thread had some experience with this stuff, and they kinda called her out on it.  She sensed her grift was in danger, and said that a bank manager was going to come to the rescue.   :lmao:

I call BS because banks have fraud detection systems that instantly flag large suspicious charges.

Example: I used a fly-by-night rental car company at LAX once and two weeks later I got a call from Amex asking me if I was buying $4K worth of diamonds at Tiffany's.

The software I've seen that is most often used is called "Yellow Hammer", it is a product of Jack Henry software.  I was always highly intrigued by it, but they are pretty secretive about it's methods and algorithms. Some variables are obvious, but there are a lot that aren't. At the banks, they had it isolated on an LPAR that we didn't even have access to. I don't know exactly how it works, but it really is pretty impressive in effectiveness.

I know location is a big one. I tour around the country via motorcycle with lots of charges from different locations that set it off. I learned that the best thing to do is call my credit union and banks ahead of time to tell them in what states I'll be using my cards. If I don't then the cards can get denied and I have to call in to verify that it's me.

Such utter BS, I've been platinum with BOA for a bunch of years and if anything out of the ordinary I get text and email messages. The card is also locked until resolved.
