Sunday!
« on: September 14, 2008, 09:31:56 AM »
The DOR!

I am just finishing up a big family breakfast.  I have bacon and sausage, hardboiled eggs and am waiting for two Dutch Babies to finish in the oven so I can top them with apples and cinnamon and blueberries before the whipped cream goes on.

What do you have on tap for today if anything?  I am house tending and nursing a fluey wife.

Dutch Baby!

Breakfast food of the Gods.

We have no plans.  My wife & co. were suppose to drive to Houston today for three days assignment at the Reliant Center.  Those plans were dampened.  So we are starting from scratch.

I'm thinking about going through the Jack-In-The-box drive-thru for some tacos.  They make a terrific brunch.

I know we have to go to Wal-Mart.  We are out of Yuban.

Sunday...the one day we don't have 9,000 places to be.

Got some cleaning chores done, and working my way through laundry.

Mr Flame is taking the boys fishing later...the boys are happily tying flies in preparation.

The girl child and I will be staying home...if it was 90+ outside today, I'd probably go along, as I enjoy a day outside, but I just don't feel like dealing with the heat.

Have 3 driveby shoots to do, 4 driveby reports, and an interior report on one foreclosure and a 30-day marketing report to do on another.

So far, I'm not very motivated. :whatever:

The other half is playing golf and I've been reading cooking magazines, two down and Paula Deen to finish.. :-)

It was nice getting to sleep in today, as I do not have to go to work until 3 (but it still means working late. :( )

I'll just be hanging out here until then, drying my hair and such.(oh, and eating leftovers from a Little Caesar's pizza for lunch...they had one open right down the road about a week ago, and my tasty pizza, which I ordered last night, was about half the price of the same type of pizza from Dominos. :cheersmate: )

I slept in a bit today.

I'm heading over to where the family is.  We're taking the kids out to Main Event (they have bowling, laser tag, arcade games, etc).  The little ones are getting a bit stir crazy in the hotel.

Slept in (as much as the dog allows me to anyway) and have been here with you good folks pretty much the rest of the time.

Can't go out an do much as it's raining and miserable, as many of you NASCAR fans have so far noted.  Also can't be beered because I have the pager so I have to 1--stay within 50 miles of the plant, 2--can't drink since I'm on call.

Just did a little laundry and gave the dog a bath.  We both feel/smell better.

Rest of the day--here, football, and phone call to mother.

Best day so far with the 4 days I've spent alone with my kids...lol...for those wondering Ryan has had some regression lately so I had a feeling this weekend would be bad all alone and it lived way down to that expectation. Today was much better...no rain(expecting it tnight) and we are starting to getting remnants of wind from Ike on the front--getting some good winds still too...trees down, but the sun is shining right now. Anyway, I got out with the kids this am and spent about 3 hours working on the front yard, edging and such...took the kids out one of those places that have a hodge podge of indoor and yard stuff and added to the fall decorations, and just got back. We are making caramel apples and then I'm trying a new recipe for Big Smokey Burgers--it has adobo sauce and chipotle peppers so I'm looking forward to it!

I so missing working out! Tomorrow I'm back on that again after 4 days off. Can't wait!! I have to go to campus tuesday and get my books too...back to the school grind in a week.

Today hasn't exactly been our best Sunday. It started out hearing that all too familiar cracking sound. One huge branch from the maple tree fell on the patio behind the bedroom. It totally blocked the door to the patio. When I looked more carefully, it also completely ruined a Lyon Shaw metal loveseat on the patio. The back is pushed back so far, where the main branch of the tree fell on it. At least it didn't break through the bathroom window; just missed.

Then the 2nd crack came and the other patio was covered with tree branches. The gutter was pulled away from the house and ruined. SR got out his trusty small chainsaw after it finally stopped raining and at least cut down enough so we could get outside (and the dogs could get out in the yard).

Then the power went out. It went out around 7:30am and was back around 1:30pm. Ameren Electric had a message that they had no idea when the power would be back on, since there was such a widespread outage.

Soooo, we ran to Target's and bought a couple more coolers, bought more ice. We took everything out of the freezer in the kitchen and put it either in the coolers or in the freezer in the garage

Naturally, after we had things under control, the power came back on. It was a relief, though, as the internet was down, all power and the phones.

The nice thing was the sweet little lady across the street, in her mid 80's, needed help from SR getting her garage door open (no power) and then later closed again. She rang the doorbell and brought us a really nice salad leftover from her church dinner.

She told me she likes SR so much that she's going to start bringing him pies.  :-)

Here's a picture of the damage from the storm. That Ike was fierce, even here, with some strong wind gusts (obviously from the pic of the tree).

Is that the same tree that tried to kill you guys earlier this year?

It is indeed the same tree. The other tree was lost about 18 months ago during the greyt ice storm. I'm having the same tree service come out. We're trying to decide whether to have it totally taken down or having all the high limbs removed. There are some nasty large branches looming over the house and on the opposite side, over our neighbor's new fence. I know those have to be drastically cut back or removed.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I worked all weekend, did three loads of laundry after work, and then spent an hour in the pool.

Heard that my old city in IL was hit with 7 inches of rain and everyone has flooded basements. Sump pumps could not keep up!

I can't say that I miss the Midwest.

Of course the bigest highlight of my weekend was when MorningAngel showed up with lunch! What a nice surprise!  :blowkiss:

I sympathize SLW. We have trees down and most schools in central oh closed today. half of aep's customers without power. Thankfully, we were not one, despite power being down at places all around us. I'm so glad since my weekend sucked. The other half took pity on me too after dealing with the kids all weekend and worked from home. We have a few tree limbs that snapped to shake down and some that look precarious that have to go too, but other then that, we were spared. They are saying the winds were near record here.

Glad you didn't have too much damage. These limbs are so big and one is hanging up in the tree, fairly high, and we can't get it down ourselves. I'm worried if the tree guy doesn't get it down soon, as don't want the dogs (or us) hurt out there.

One woman in one of the suburbs was killed when she stepped outside and a large tree limb hit her in the head. There was another woman killed when she was swept away in a flash flood. It happened in the city, not in an area where you'd expect to deal with flash floods sweeping you away.

We had about 5 inches of rain.
