I have an interesting story about the price of insulin thing that the dems are always bragging about. I haven’t mentioned it before because it’s from an article that I read and I never researched to see if the article was accurate. I can’t even remember where I read the article.
Anyway, this is what I remember and I’m old so my memory can be faulty at times. The bill that the dems are so proud of did NOT lower the price of insulin. It only lowered the out of pocket cost that the individual on Medicare or Medicaid or whatever had to pay. The rest of the bill is footed by the American tax payers. In other words, the companies are still getting their money and all of us who pay taxes are now paying for insulin.
According to the article, the republicans also had a bill. I guess the GOP came up with their bill before the dems came up with theirs. In the GOP bill, the drug companies had to sell insulin in America for the same low price that they sell it for in other countries. With the GOP bill, which the democrats either defeated or wouldn’t bring to a vote, the seniors who need insulin would pay a low price just like in the dem bill; however, the American public wouldn’t be stuck paying for the remainder of the insulin cost.
Now, I’m sure all of the above could have been written better, but it’s getting late. If anyone here happens to have any info that shoots down or supports what I remember reading, I’d love for you to share it.
