House Democrats on Tuesday afternoon decided that 74-year-old Gerry Connolly—who announced his throat cancer diagnosis in November—will serve as ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, besting 35-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a closed-door caucus vote. “Gerry’s a young 74, cancer notwithstanding,” said Virginia Democrat Don Beyer, a Connolly ally. Pelosi had opposed the 35-year-old’s run for the role, “approaching colleagues urging them to back Connolly over Ocasio-Cortez,” Axios reported last week....

Reminds me of when Democrats registered as Republicans in Colorado Springs in the 1990s/early 2000s to be able to vote in R primaries and thus vote for the less insane candidate to be on the general ballot.Also, moderate/centrists are the party of Pelosi, who is among the older leadership that doesn't want to give up their power or acknowledge their own complicity in the current state of the party. IOW, I agree with this article that Pelosi and the D leadership may have passed their "use by" date.
