Obama mocks McCain as computer illiterate in ad

NEW YORK (AP) — John McCain is mocked as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate in a television commercial out Friday from Barack Obama as the Democrat begins his sharpest barrage yet on McCain's long Washington career.

... The newest ad showcasing their hard line includes unflattering footage of McCain at a hearing in the early '80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik's Cube.

"1982, John McCain goes to Washington," an announcer says over chirpy elevator music. "Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn't.

"He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail, still doesn't understand the economy, and favors two hundred billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class," it says. It shows video of McCain getting out of a golf cart with former President George H.W. Bush and closes with a photo of him standing with the current President Bush at the White House. "After one president who was out of touch, we just can't afford more of the same."

Obama spokesman Dan Pfeiffer said the campaign was not making an issue of the 72-year-old McCain's age, but the time he's spent in Washington.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the President not allowed to use e-mail?

I found the ad and these comments here: http://getdrunkandvote4mccain.com/archive/obama-ad-mocks-mccain-as-computer-illiterate-2

You see, if Mr. McCain doesn’t understand how to use a computer our new economy will go to hell.

Which is why Mr. Obama is a part time roughneck working out in the oil fields.

So the response is to show a series of clips of Obama and others fiddling with a crackberry constantly being interrupted by email and ignoring the person in front of them. Technology has a place and email is a powerful tool, but the POTUS does not need to be chained to email.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% against idiots who say things like “I don’t need a computer, I’ve got a secretary”, but this is a different situation. The POTUS has a horde of staff around him/her at all times, they should have the electronic tethers and make a situational assessment as to when the President needs to be informed about a war in Asia or spam about discount Viagra.

In a sense, this is much like the comments over Bush senior when he was amazed at the laser UPC scanner in a grocery store after his term. Somehow people found it surprising that he hadn’t dropped in at the local grocery store in the previous 12 years. Personally I don’t want my President to be spending a lot of time at the KwikiMart buying a 2 liter of Mountain Dew and a lottery ticket or chained to an email inbox.

LOL I wondered the same thing.  I think he has had enough only when it pertains to others attacking him.   :p

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

Should be.  Besides, he's got too many important things to do than delete discount viagra spam emails.

And I REALLY don't want a president hooked on a crackberry.
My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he'll be a world-famous recording artist.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

The other kills her own food.

He only pulls that rabbit out of his hat when he knows he's been beat.  Other than that, it's all good.

And McCain learned to fly an A-4 Skyhawk.  That dumb old guy.  :whatever:

The "youth vote" also is the one that usually forgets which day is Election Day.  :-)

Yeah, but unfortunately, I think it was the youth vote that fell for Captain Cigar's "boxers or briefs" pandering on MTV.
