Like a Twilight Zone episode this MAGA crap is in all of our communities.

We live in a small seaside town in the northeast. Within our community about ten percent of the population fish, although they act like they're the only people in the town whose viewpoints and interests should be heard. I respect what they do for a living, they're hard working people. Unfortunately, within the last ten years they've become radicalized. They're against wind power, even though they are losing their fisheries due to the warming of the waters. They managed to get the state to commit to not put turbines in state waters. They're even against setting up one turbine so we can study the real world effects.

I know several people who lobster for a living and while they have told me privately that they know climate change is warming the waters and driving the lobster north, they also told me they could never admit this in front of their peers. They're afraid of being ostracized.

Several years ago there was a push in our town to import Liquefied Natural Gas here. Our state representative told us that at least 50% of the fishing community at that time were in opposition to LNG, she said today that percentage would be close to zero. She said that for the most part the fishing people have been indoctrinated by MAGA.

A couple of years ago I attended a meeting organized by the fishing community. The Federal Government had just put a two year moratorium on rules that would protect Right Whales with the idea that they would work with the fishing community to study the impact of fishing gear on Right Whales and to seek common ground with them. One of the leading fishermen got up and said they would use this time to beef up their legal team in order to fight any and all regulations and that they had zero interest in studies or compromising.

I abruptly left this meeting. On my way to my car there were a multitude of pick up trucks with Trump stickers, Vote Republican stickers, **** Biden stickers and **** Governor Mills stickers.

My point is there is no way to work with these people as their attitude is Our Way or the Highway.

I'll save for later a post of what the school board meetings have been like!
