Dem "heavyweights" demand control of free speech

Leave it to Cankles and John F-ing Kerry, who served in Vietnam, to assail the First Amendment:

Hillary Clinton: ‘We Lose Total Control’ If Social Media Companies Don’t ‘Moderate’ Content

This should be "at the top of every legislative political agenda," she said.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said during an interview over the weekend that there needed to be more regulation and censorship on the internet or else the government will lose “control.”

Clinton made the remarks during a Saturday appearance on CNN’s “Smerconish” with host Michael Smerconish while talking about social initiatives that Clinton wants to see society engage in.

“We can look at the state of California, the state of New York, I think some other states have also taken action,” Clinton began.

“But we need national action, and sadly, our Congress has been dysfunctional when it comes to addressing these threats to our children,” she said.

“But we need national action, and sadly, our Congress has been dysfunctional when it comes to addressing these threats to our children,” she said. “But we now know that that was an overly simple view, that if the platforms, whether it’s Facebook or Twitter, X, or Instagram or Tiktok, whatever they are, if they don’t moderate and monitor the content, we lose total control,” she continued. She said that the companies needed their immunity to be removed so that “guardrails” could be put into place.

John Kerry says First Amendment is the enemy, as elites try to stamp out free speech

If you want to know how hostile the global elite are to free speech, look no further than John Kerry’s recent speech to the World Economic Forum.

Rather than extol the benefits of democratic liberty versus dictatorships and oligarchs, Kerry called the First Amendment a “major block” to keeping people from believing the “wrong” things.

The former secretary of state and aide to the Biden-Harris administration told the sympathetic audience:

“You know, there’s a lot of discussion now about how you curb those entities in order to guarantee that you’re going to have some accountability on facts, etc. But look, if people only go to one source, and the source they go to is sick, and, you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence.

“So what we need is to win the ground, win the right to govern, by hopefully winning enough votes that you’re free to be able to implement change.”

The “freedom” to be won in this election is to liberate officials who like himself can set about controlling what can be said, read or heard. Kerry insisted that the problem with social media is that no one is controlling what they can say or read.

“The dislike of and anguish over social media is just growing and growing. It is part of our problem, particularly in democracies, in terms of building consensus around any issue,” he said.

“It’s really hard to govern today. The referees we used to have to determine what is a fact and what isn’t a fact have kind of been eviscerated, to a certain degree. And people go and self-select where they go for their news, for their information. And then you get into a vicious cycle.”

Kerry continued: “Democracies around the world now are struggling with the absence of a sort of truth arbiter, and there’s no one who defines what facts really are.”

They claim they want to save democracy. I guess that their idea of "saving" it entails shitting on the Constitution. Too bad that there are a lot of folks too naive to notice.

Free speech is widely understood to be one way in which governments are kept in check. Why should governments decide what limitations there are on something that is meant to keep them in check, with respect to things like "disinformation"? And what "referees" of the past is Kerry referring to? Or is that just more ahistorical nonsense?

Hilary was in Tipper Gore's "Washington Wives" group that started the PMRC, got Congressional hearings about evil, mostly heavy metal music (Madonna and Prince were targeted as well), and birthed the parental advisory sticker that, via pressuring corporations, prevented many albums from being sold in several big chain stores.  Funny now, cause many of those albums have anniversary editions for sale at those same stores (looking at you Walmart, where you can get a Walmart edition Iron Maiden Number of the Beast LP for a mere $30).

Anyway, censorship and media control are nothing new.  There were a lot of Republicans on board back then too.

Still is frequently.  Don't notice a blatant reference in this round, but I can only read so much donkey doo-doo at a time.

Funny, the left accuses the right of only caring about the kids until they are born, while the left only cares about the kids after the "choice" to keep them alive for birth.

Cankles clinton needs to go away, she is not and never will be president. She is irrelevant, she created a big enough mess when she was Secretary of State. She needs to go write another book that no one will buy  :thatsright:

And at the World Economic Forum John Kerry was essentially saying the 'net along with our 1st Amendment is making it difficult for our government to  maintain "control". He expressed how some listen to the "wrong" news sources. He thinks the government should decide what is truth!?  Then we get the elitist-approved version. It seems we're just too stoopid to decide for ourselves..  :bird: :bird: :bird: :bird:
