SHAMELESS AP Intentionally Misquotes J.D. Vance on School Shooting, Deletes Post After Narrative Is Set

Shame on the Associated Press. Well, we'd shame them if they had shame. But they're incapable of it.

The headline read, “JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security.” Vance was speaking about the tragic shooting in Georgia, where Colt Gray, 14, shot and killed four people at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia. A school resource officer engaged Gray, who later surrendered to police. His father, Colin Gray, 54, was arrested today and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

 The incident has reignited the debates surrounding gun control and having armed police at schools. The latter is a public safety policy that works—it’s proven. But Democrats don’t like it because it addresses the issue in a way that doesn’t involve moving the needle toward gun confiscation. The Associated Press tried to smear Vance as cold-hearted with that headline. Here’s what he said, which ironically is included in the article:

“If these psychos are going to go after our kids we’ve got to be prepared for it,” Vance said at a rally in Phoenix. “We don’t have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We’ve got to deal with it.”

The Ohio senator was asked by a journalist what can be done to stop school shootings. He said further restricting access to guns, as many Democrats advocate, won’t end them, noting they happen in states with both lax and strict gun laws. He touted efforts in Congress to give schools more money for security.

“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance said. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they’re not able.”

Saw that headline splattered all over and my first thought was "I'll bet a big stack of doughnuts there's something left out".  Not that the moonbats and the bots care.  They have their marching orders.

As the old saying goes, "A text out of context is a pretext." Trump probably texted Vance, "Welcome to my world of the past 9 years." When a "quote" is just a couple of words or very short phrase, you know the purpose probably is to deceive. A single reading of the full sentence or two sufficed for me to understand what Vance actually said, that schools need more/better security.

Here is SVPete's decent-grasp-on-the-grossly-obvious advice: If you see a gotcha-quote from any (ANY!) politician or religious figure or businessperson, find the transcript/text/article and see what they actually said, in context. I wish I could say that conservatives never do this kind of @#$%, but I won't lie with such a denial (it is, however, much less common, IMO).

To maintain objectivity in journalism, journalists should present the facts whether or not they like or agree with those facts.

New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay said it's "a little silly" for journalists to hold Vice President Kamala Harris to the same standards as former President Trump.

Gay was a guest on Thursday’s "Morning Joe" where the eponymous MSNBC host bemoaned the "sacrosanct" wall between editorials and news when it comes to the presidential candidates, adding how absurd it was to believe there was a "moral equivalency" between criticizing Trump and Harris.

Gay agreed the "choice is obvious" between the two, suggesting there needs to be a different standard applied to Trump.

"I think the challenge, not just for journalists, but really for the country, is that not only is Donald Trump a threat, but, you know, it lowers the bar. So I don’t think it’s unacceptable. And I think it’s important for our role as journalists to really push every candidate for office," Gay said.

"And there are plenty of things that we could hear from the vice president that we’d love to hear more about policy speeches," she continued. "It’d be great to see her take more questions from the press. Those things are important.

"It’s just the context is difficult because of the extremism of the Republican Party, because of how extreme Donald Trump is, it’s hard to hold both candidates accountable equally, because one is committed to democracy and is functioning as a normal candidate from a normal American party, and the other is not."

Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, said in the wake of the deadly school shooting in Georgia that the massacres are sadly a “fact of life” and offered ways to fortify schools to make them safer against gun violence.

Kamala Harris put out a statement with Vance’s comments and called for “action to keep our children safe and keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

And it appeared to strike a nerve with team Trump that she used Vance’s comments against them.

“Kamala’s interns just released a statement pushing FAKE NEWS,” Trump War Room posted to X with its more than 2 million followers. “Watch the full video and you’ll clearly see that JD Vance does not say what they claim he said. These morons do nothing but lie every single day.”
