I'm not going to grave dance since I find it to be distasteful. Just thought it was interesting enough news to bring over. Regardless, I'm all but certain that The Magistrate will still be casting his vote for the most awesome female President to ever be nominated come November.

I'm afraid I have to be the bearer of some very bad news about The Magistrate [View all]
We have received word from the family of The Magistrate that he has had a sudden and devastating heart attack. I've been asked to post the following on behalf of his family:

Quote
The Magistrate has had his last heart attack.

This week, days after seeing his cardiologist (who gave him a clean bill of health), The Magistrate had a severe heart attack that doctors say would result in permanent brain damage. He is totally unresponsive and will not survive. Tomorrow doctors will remove him from the respirator. Our extended family will be there along with friends.

DUers have been so generous in the past with their tributes and best wishes that the family would love to read the replies at the funeral. Please post your condolences and memories of James, aka Papa, aka The Magistrate, a kind, caring, funny, very very smart and loyal man who was considered very special by everyone who knew him. We will miss him forever.

The Magistrate has been a fixture on Democratic Underground for nearly 23 years, almost since the beginning. He joined in October of 2001, less than a year after the site was founded, and his sardonic wit and playful, unique posting style quickly made him a favorite of many DUers -- and occasionally drew the ire of others.

But as much as he sometimes raised the hackles of the folks with whom he loved to verbally joust -- and he wouldn't have had it any other way -- nobody could ever claim that The Magistrate did not care about this country and its future.

Sir, you were a great Democrat, and a great DUer, and you will be greatly missed.

First, saying stuff like this is a sure and certain way to attract the unwanted attentions of Komrade Kankles and her 'Suicide Squad. Just sayin'...

Secondly, as a newly established 'Dead-icated' Dim'Rat voter, I feel unreserved in saying that the Magistrate will be voting early, often and in as many precincts as possible, from mid September onward. :whatever:

I wonder how many deleted posts will end up on that thread since he had made a fair number of enemies over there with his condescending style.  I tended to skip over most of his posts because the majority of them were "baffle them with bullshit" walls of text.  He seemed to think including random historical factoids in posts and trying to tie them to current events (no matter how tenuous those ties were) made him look intelligent.  I think they made him look like a boorish, non-funny version of Cliff Clavin.

Wish no ill will on those who oppose me politically, so I hope the fella dies peacefully based on what info SquirrelG provided.

That being said, you described The Magistrate perfectly. A complete arrogant jackass and the Cliff Clavin comparison is apropos. We will miss his condescending blather.

Oh No.
Anyway
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Huh, I read the entire post.

What was the bad news?

Then he became a democrat.

Whenever I'd read that soon to be deceased DUmmy's posts with that "Sir" crap, I wondered if he was emulating that blowhard Keith Olbermann or Marcie from the comic strip Peanuts, who always called Charlie Brown "Sir".

Its a fine line between those two.

No matter how many times I read this, I fail to understand where the bad news is.

When I posted there years ago (as a mole - my account is still open with close to 5 digit posts), I hated that condescending as*hole.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

Got into a few minor tiffs with him over the years with my long-time mole (which is actually now of legal drinking age, considering how long I've had the account). Nothing that I recall made it over to the Cave or CU and he didn't respond to many folks who actually challenged him.

In perusing this thread it occurred to me from the start that I didn't recognize the dude's DU-name. Evidently arrogance and condescension don't guarantee interesting and entertaining content.

The Magistrate is a contortionist!!!

Believing Trump, Moore, And Kavanaugh Guilty Does Not Require Believing Mr. Biden Is

Finding a charge made by one person to be credible does not require me to consider a charge made by some other person to be credible. Charges of criminal behavior should be assessed individually, and the credibility of the person making the charge, as well as the credibility of the charge itself, must be weighed.

Some claim falsely it does, that because some span of time elapsed between the acts alleged and the woman's reporting of same, all should be viewed as identical. It is true that persons subjected to sexual assault sometimes take their time to come forward. It is also true people will often wait to launch a lie till the time seems right.

In the case of charges against Trump, Moore, and Kavanaugh, the persons laying the accusations are solid and credible, as are the accusations they make. They are not solitary accusers, in each instance there were multiple people coming forward. In each instance the accusations were consistent with known behavior, from the well documented media circus of 'Trump, the playboy', to what everyone knows is common behavior at beer-bash jock parties of the sort Kavanaugh himself documented attending, to the foul odor of pious fraud Moore has always reeked of, in his extreme denunciation of perversion in others. which so often betrays a guilty secret trying to break out in confession.

Reade has not just altered her claims over recent years, but has made them more extreme as each version failed to excite much attention. That is not a pattern of a truthful person, coming forward after a lapse of years, but the pattern of a calculating liar who is seeking to find what level of charge it will take to win notoriety, and damage the target of the lie. Even more telling is that when Reade finally swore out a police complaint, she omitted to include the name of the person she accuses. If someone will not swear to a charge under penalty of perjury, there is no reason whatever to believe that person making the charge when not under oath. Note that none of this makes reference to the well-evidenced flakiness of Reade, which opens the possibility she is simply a fabulist, or to her adherence to Putin and Russia, or to the obvious axes to grind which every person promoting her story has. These are, however, things which damage her credibility further.

It should be noted, too, that hypocrisy is dead as a charge of any weight in political life. No one is, and no one ought to be, deterred by a charge of hypocrisy from pressing the line best suited to the political needs of the present day. Well-meaning, good-hearted people who tend to the left need to learn not to allow their better natures to be taken advantage of by vicious scum on the right, and splinterest wreckers on the far left, who enlist them in their charges against figures of the center left, by exhorting them to 'be consistent' and telling them 'don't be hypocrites'. The proper response to attempts at this is a hearty "**** off! Nobody cares what a rancid piece of dogshit like you thinks!" Or words to that effect....

Only attack the enemy, the christo-fascist right.

Never, ever, attack people who are on your side.

If you want one quick reason why the right wing wields power well out of proportion to the popularity of its policies, it is that they adhere to this rule, and we on the left do not.

I confess to not having followed this nonesense too closely.

As I recall, the owner of the shop has very poor eyesight, and said he could not recognize the the person who left him the thing, but that there was some sort of signed receipt.

Well, other than the repair shop owner, the NYT, WashPost, and just about every MSM outlet have finally admitted the laptop's genuineness. :thatsright: As to the shop owner's eyesight, he probably knows of this nifty invention called eyeglasses. :thatsright: And of Benjamin Franklin's improvement called bifocals. :thatsright:

The Magistrate.

The Magistrate lies in intensive care tonight, recovering from triple bypass surgery.

It was a long day for him but even longer for those of us who love and cherish this uniquely gifted, deeply insightful and impeccably droll man. His presence is treasured by us all; his absence would leave us inconsolable. We are deeply grateful to all the doctors and hospital staff who have worked so hard and so skillfully to keep him in our midst.

As you have so kindly done in the past, I hope you can take a minute to send Mag a shout-out that will lift his spirits as he sets out on the road to full recovery. He holds his DU friends in high esteem, and even appreciates his enemies for the amusement they provide.

So put a smile on the old man's face. It'll be the best post you can write tonight

Well, there's another possible Ralph Wiggum persona that is gone.  I've gotten PM's over the years from DU'ers who have joined up claiming that I was "The Magistrate".

Best wishes on his recovery.

I'd forgotten the "Has Anyone Actually Connected Young Mr. Biden To This Particular Lap-Top?" thread. Looking over the DU thread, let's just say that a "What happened" post necro'ing the thread would earn swift pizza delivery.
