today's desperate attempt by the democrats and the obama campaign to damage Sarah Palin with
women.  I suppose she was supposed to do away with a practice that she didn't know was
occurring.

Quote
Palin's town used to bill victims for rape kits

WASILLA, Alaska — In 2000, Alaska lawmakers learned that rural police agencies had been billing rape victims or their insurance companies $500 to $1,200 for the costs of the forensic medical examinations used to gather evidence. They quickly passed a law prohibiting the practice.

According to the sponsor, Democrat Eric Croft, the law was aimed in part at Wasilla, where now-Gov. Sarah Palin was mayor. When it was signed, Wasilla's police chief expressed displeasure.

"In the past, we've charged the cost of exams to the victims' insurance company when possible," then-chief Charlie Fannon told the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, the local newspaper. "I just don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer."

Now that Palin is the Republican nominee for vice president, Democrats such as former Alaska governor Tony Knowles — who signed the rape-kit bill into law and was defeated by Palin in 2006 — are raising the issue to question Palin's commitment to women's issues and crime victims. Palin appointed Fannon after firing his predecessor shortly after she took office in 1996.

"In retrospect, I would have asked the female working-mother mayor of that town why her police chief was against this," said Croft, the former Anchorage state representative.

Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella said in an e-mail that the governor "does not believe, nor has she ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test."

"Gov. Palin's position could not be more clear," she said. "To suggest otherwise is a deliberate misrepresentation of her commitment to supporting victims and bringing violent criminals to justice."

Sure, why not - although I have no link, everyone around here is chatting about Alaska having the highest rate of incest in the nation. Anything to smear Palin, I suppose.

Those medical items do cost money.  They are not found on rapekit trees growing wild in the hospital atrium.  Who should bear the cost?  The victim?  The taxpayer?  The rapist?  And why?

Hospitals will charge for everything and anything and charge you 10fold.  This isn't her fault and this has no legs.

Actually, seems nothing is going to stick on her from this point forward.  They screwed up from the beginning.  As Barrack said....ENOUGH. :-)

Happily for us, it has become "The Boy Who Cried Wolf!" ( well, "The DUmmy Who Cried NeoCon!" ) and even <<IF>> they find something salacious or intriguing, nobody is going to buy it now. Nobody knows how to poison their own well better than a liberal.

H5 to both of you.  There is a lot of insight for you to see what is happening in the realpolitik world.

If they came out tomorrow and said Todd was Sarah's brother, it would get no traction at all.  The American public (other than the extreme lefties at DU and KOS) can now see that there is a political assassination of Palin underway and reject it wholesale. And the faux photos help even more, since video and photographic sources will be scoffed at as well.

Screw DU that says that Americans are stupid.  They say that because THEY are stupid and see the Kool-Aid they drink as some sort of "reality."

Americans are smart.  That is why we pretty much run the world and continue to make all the major scientific breakthroughs (despite the attempts by the YEC fundies to stop that).  There is a good reason that the international language of Commerce is English.  As is the international  language of Technology.

I was worried when it looked like the messia-uh would be shood in.  But now not only am I confident Americans reject the socialist agenda of hussein, but they are attacking back on the attacks -- Congress might just shift back.

there is the glow of the honeymoon, after which you have to have prove the security of substance.  she undoubtedly has it,
but this opening interview from a relative political non-carnivore does nothing to allay my fear that a republican woman as VP
terrifies the left to such an extreme, that they will do anything to drop her.

she hasn't proven that she is teflon;  she hasn't been around long enough.  but she is beginning to make me think that she is
just plain smarter than they are.

^that's all it takes for a lot of voters. They are going to skewer her in the next 50-odd days. But she was told that and is not a babe in the woods. Or is she?  :lmao: Heh. I made a Palin funny.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I think that the more unfairly and viciously that she is attacked, the more swing voters will move to mccain/palin.  the MSM is badly overplaying their hand, and a vast majority of the voters can spot THAT.

It's been smart of Palin to stay mum and "stick to the script" through the major frontal assault of the left.  Let the libs talk their way to a GOP victory.  Palin's stock just keeps going up and up, and all she needs to talk about is herself.
