DU was attacked back in '16 for a reason. In some ways, I feel like we're under a similar attack now.

I might’ve been a kid then but I was politically aware. After experiencing a lockdown in my hometown because of the rioting in April, and RFK’s assassination, wondered if the USA was evolving into another type of government.

I was born in a household where “children are seen but not heard”, so I was sneaking off to read the newspaper or listening to the news. Chicago 1968 was unsettling.

Nearly 60 years later, looking back, why should children have to worry about their future at that age?

About a week later was the DNC convention and we know what happened there.

And maybe some words from Abraham Lincoln's speeches. I visited the Lincoln Memorial and read his last speech, which seemed even more wonderful than the one that is so constantly quoted. And maybe some words from Franklin Delano Roosevelt's speeches. He led the last fight against the Nazis.

A friend of mine said this a week ago. He's a conservative and we both said that if it happened that would just be because they caused it. So all I can add is for everyone to stock up on the popcorn and watch the whole thing devolve into the chaos it will be.

Biden is out, just as Johnson was out before the convention.

Who again is trying to turn Chicago '24 into Chicago '68? Not Trump (well, except for not dying) and no one on our side is doing this.

The contrast will not be starker. On the one side, we have the most well run convention, possibly ever (it even felt more like a rally than an actual convention). On the other side, we will likely have chaos, confusion, conflict and craziness at the convention. Even if Biden didn't drop out.

If Trump had died that day, our convention might have been cancelled outright (JD Vance wasn't announced at that time) as we scrambled to find a replacement, and the democrat convention would be a coronation (though still marred by protests outside).
