Is it possible Biden was out of it as a reaction to some OTC medication (Dayquil?) that wore off later in the evening?
I saw that possibility mentioned on Twitter, and I've been reading about side effects, which can be worse in the elderly. Especially if he'd taken even slightly more than he should. Symptoms can include dizziness, confusion, a dry throat, and nervousness.

There seemed to be agreement among pundits that he did better in the second half of the debate, and was in better shape later in the evening, which suggests some drug wearing off.

OTC drugs can have very annoying side effects. I rarely take any and don't take any prescriptions (I do buy a lot of supplements), but years ago I'd sometimes take Triaminicin, which helped with cold/allergy symptoms but could make me so dizzy I felt as if the room was spinning around me, which would make it very hard to focus.

Actually one of the people prepping him for the debate was a Trump Russian secret agent who slipped him a drug to make him look old and feeble.
It was all secretly planned by the rethuglican party to steal the upcoming presidential election.

Joe is now finally recovered and hiding in his basement in Delaware until after he wins reelection. In the meantime he’s got a double out on the campaign trail to win over the hearts and minds of all the voters who love him

When Biden arrived in Atlanta, he was hugging and kissing people as he greeted them. Now I ask you, if you had a cold or was feeling ill, would you be doing things that might spread whatever you have to others? The only type of people who do that are either uncaring, mean, or just stupid. With Biden, I’ll say it would be all three.

I'm wondering if Joe drank or ate something that was not sealed prior to the debate. Did he have a cup of coffee or a glass of water handed to him from a CNN employee beforehand? Just wondering, since putting things into drinks is kind of a hallmark of the FSB.

Like I said - I don't want to go tinfoil hat, but....

6. There are a number of explanations for what we saw.

And your idea must be on the list.

Biden was not functioning at his baseline mental status level.

He was in proximity to ruthless sociopaths who will do anything to win.

Within 24 hours he is back to baseline.

It is not tinfoil, it is just reality about one possible explanation.
