Michigan Republicans plan to foreclose African American voters

The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP’s effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.

“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

State election rules allow parties to assign “election challengers” to polls to monitor the election. In addition to observing the poll workers, these volunteers can challenge the eligibility of any voter provided they “have a good reason to believe” that the person is not eligible to vote. One allowable reason is that the person is not a “true resident of the city or township.”

The Michigan Republicans’ planned use of foreclosure lists is apparently an attempt to challenge ineligible voters as not being “true residents.”

One expert questioned the legality of the tactic.

Full article at the link. The reporter, Eartha Jane Melzer, will be doing more in the coming days on attempts to disenfranchise voters. Important stuff.

8. Then, Democrats should flood every GOP-heavy precinct
and challenge every *******ed voter there. Bog the system down. Bring it to its ****ing knees. Show it up for the sham it is. Beat them at their own game. Make them wait in three-hour lines to vote, while you challenge every single GOP asshole who walks in the door.

19. There is one guaranteed way to solve this problem--everyone should do this
Start going to the realtors in town, especially the ones who do a lot of rentals. Take a roll of stamps, a ream of paper and a box of envelopes. Also take a little Word file that says something like "we hope you are enjoying your new home. We would like to remind you that you must register your new address with the Board of Elections before you are eligible to vote in the November election. The Board of Elections' office is at (address) and is open (operating hours)." Tell them you are willing to address and mail the letters if they'll run a form letter against their client files.

We can try caging all we like, but it would be FAR more fun, as well as more effective, to make sure this moran has as few voters to challenge as possible.

35. How many of those GOP vote challengers get punched in the nose?
Seriously. If I went to vote, and some rethug douchebag tried to tell me I wasn't allowed to vote, I'd put the son-of-a-bitch in the *******ed hospital. I don't care if I got to jail. It would take six cops with tasers and pepper spray to get me off that sack of shit.

They are in a frenzy over there, but at least it isn't a Palin thread.

Well, gee, if they are real residents with really valid addresses, there isn't any possible way for this to be a problem, is there?

if you are old enough to get a mortgage and move into a new place, lets assume you are old enough to know all of the places you need to change your address.

and finally, who doesnt know there is an election this year?? if you have to remind people to sign up to vote, they probably arent going to vote anyway!

Democrats love vote fraud.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
