Obama: 'Lipstick on a pig'

Amie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA:

Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

Obama.  Flames.  Down.  Badly.

BTW--he's not shifting staff to NC because he's competitive there and not in GA.  As of today, one poll has him down 20 points in NC.

He's taking the anti-Kerry approach.

Trouble is, his ham handed tactic is a) wrong and b) stupid.

But they decided a long time it would be this way and are too stupid to realize what a loser it is.  THey are convinced that the GOP has always done mean and deceitful when, in fact, all they ever did was tell the truth.

Most dems are so buried in rationalization that the lost sight of truth completely.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. Linguistically it's kind of a clever twist on her 'Hockey mom' gambit, the problem for Obama is that in actual practice it will probably really piss off most women who hear it, and make most men think that Obama needs a white cane and a guide dog.

See, the thing is, that a woman can get away with such a comment.  Most men can't. Because it comes off as highly sexist when a man says things like that.  But when a woman says it, a lot of soccer moms relate to it.

He just pissed off a lot of soccer moms I think.

After reading this thread a little while ago...I told the other half about it.

His comment....."oh, he shouldn't have said that.....that was just dumb"........can't do the voice inflection here...but it was funny the way he said it.

Also said it was really going to piss off a whooooollllllle lot of women.

Totally agree; a clever little quip if it had a different context, but as it is it comes across not as clever at all, but as him calling her a pig in a poorly-veiled way, which is not going to sit well with anyone but DUmmies and KOStards.

But a Potential President calling his oponent, a potential, vice-president a PIG is outrageous!

Bill O'Reilly had it on tonight and so did Greta....they showed the whole paragraph...not just the sentence.....and it's still a stupid comment.

It doesn't matter if it's taken out of context or not.....still says the same thing.

The best part is that he plagiarized the speech leading up to the pig comment from a cartoon:

Dick Morris, on Fox & Friends, just said that the comment was deliberate, in that it was what Obama was thinking, but it came out accidentially.

(Blue's comment) If it was deliberate, the Dems have committed political suicide.  If it was accidential, it speaks volumes about his judgement, and his judgement is one of his self-described strong points.

It was an incredibly stupid metaphor to use but I don't think Obama intended to call Palin a pig.

It's a common phrase.   This reminds me of something that happened on NU.  A ROC poster threw out the question "Have you stopped beating your wife lately?"  after an LOC asked a loaded question.   The LOC poster went ballistic saying "HOW DARE YOU BRING MY FAMILY INTO THIS???!!!!!!".   There was a callout in the Fight Club.   It was crazy.

The thing that bothers me about this strategy is that, it is starting to sound like "hands off the girl".   It's like the right taking a page out of the lefty book, let's look for offense anywhere we find it.

There is a lot for the McCain/Palin campaign to be upset about, with regard to the crap about Palin's family and even going over all the expense records with a fine tooth comb, but this phrase is not really one of them.

Now I'll argue out of the other side of my mouth.. :-)
Apparently with FOX and others picking up on this, it could be a strategy that works.   Because it is a play straight out of the lefty play book, it's hard for them fight against it.
