DU Showing Off Their Love for Unions

Why do so many members of the UAW support Trump and GOP? What did Trump ever do for them?

At least Joe Biden and the Dems have a record of actually working to save the auto industry.

What did Trump do from 2016 for auto workers except to talk about how great he is for the UAW? The tax windfall from the Trump administration went 90% to wealthy people who didn't even NEED it.

What is going on with the union. Trump never worked a day in his life and GOP party big wigs have worked hard against unions and other workers since the days of FDR.

Are unions so full of members who actually believe that the GOP and Trump work on their behalf? I don't get it.

1. They think the Democratic Party is the great Satan.

I don’t know how we will ever get past that. In their minds Democrats eat babies. Brainwashing works, ask the Russians. It has nothing to do with who is serving their own self interest. They’ve got it too good. They know the Republicans would fire them if they went on strike

Brainwashing, that must be it.  And how would the Republicans fire the UAW workers?

2. It's epidemic in my union.

I see more “**** Biden” stickers on hard hats than I care to count. There’s an extreme anti-woke sentiment throughout the union. Admittedly, these guys aren’t rocket scientists but you’d think not supporting a right to work party would be a no brainer.

Oh, no wait, they're stupid.  Maybe that's why.

Fox News and Rush, of course.

to be “blue collar” than “union”.

If memory serves, Reagan got support from the unions — until he fired PATCO.

It's funny how they bring up the PATCO strike, which happened 40+ years ago, but ignore Biden busting the railroad strike less than a year ago.

86. This is absolutely the wrong take

Because those of us who were in union shops long before hate radio or Fox ever came along knew how right-wing your average union workforce was.

This has nothing to do with Fox and hate radio. Those things are symptoms, not the disease--that's what none of you get. People turn to those outlets because they ****affirm and validate**** what they already think, not to learn anything or be informed. They don't want to learn anything--and they never have.

They hate intellectuals of all kinds, especially book readers and anyone who went to college. They always have. They are willfully ignorant to the point that they hold knowledge and facts and reason in contempt. And they're proud of not being artsy-fartsy know-it-alls--even though they're the very ones who think they know it all.

Your average white male union worker is the guy who sat in the back of the class and disrupted everyone else's learning by trashing everything the teacher tried to impart. They were the smart alecks who couldn't be arsed to learn anything. They thought they already knew all they needed to know, so teachers only wanted them cooped up and fed nonsense until they were 18, to justify their jobs. Do you know where I learned that viewpoint? From more than one white male union worker! They may not have said it precisely that way, but that was the gist of it, every single time.

And that's how they've always been, long before there was even Rush Limbaugh.

I guess anti-intellectual is a step up from stupid.

I see it all the time at my place of work. They're white and are easily susceptible to RW manipulation. Many are racists that keep quiet about it. So ****ing frustrating. If I'm ever able to add a Dem talking point I do but when you are so hateful there's really nothing you can do. Make sure WE show up EN MASSE!!!

31. Racism Plays Large Part

The U.S. is full of racists and you can tell who most of the American racist are by their political affiliation. If they're a Republican, odds are they're a racist. Racism is much bigger in U.S. than most realize.

70. Those of us who have actually, you know,

****Worked in a union**** know that a significant number of union workers have long been traitor party thugs. The uppermost union leadership might be liberal, but down at the local level? Nope. Not remotely.

Been that way since raygun.

Not all unions are like that, but let's put it this way: I've worked in four different union shops, and three of them were swarming with exactly the aggrieved entitlement white population that supports the traitor thugs. My brother belonged to two separate unions himself, and he's one of those aggrieved entitlement white dudes--something he learned from being a union worker, because I can assure you that he didn't learn that at home.

The sole exception to the right-winger majority union shop in my experience was a textile company that had mostly women and brown people working there. We had actual communists as stewards, LOL. They didn't even try to hide it!

So, no, it wouldn't surprise me at all if a significant percentage of UAW workers were traitor thugs. I'd expect it, because I'd learned the hard way to expect it at any union job I had.

Damn entitled white men!!!  And I have a funny feeling that the Communist union stewards weren't sharing their wealth with the janitors.

49. I kinda see it this way. MONEY! MONEY MONEY!

Ok, i have a small amount in a 401 plan. I gotta say when TFG (or any rethug)was in the white house i received MORE interest, period. I'm positive ALL union workers are invested heavily in the market. Money means EVERYTHING to people. Shit, they DON'T think about anything except I'M losing money on my 401 plan. I have relatives COMPLAINING about, I'm losing money! So tired of the stupidity. They are willing to give up our democracy! STUPID idiots.

Um, yeah that's why people work.  To make money.  And nice of you to acknowledge how bad Biden's economy is.

50. Sadly, most of them aren't very bright.

They get stuck in dead-end, menial labor jobs that they can’t escape and want to make life miserable for everyone else who has been able to make something better with their lives.
After serving in the Army, I worked a year in a union shop, making plastic pellets, as I saved to go to college. Most men there were middle age, white male WWII and Korean war veterans. They were out-of-shape and unhealthy, working miserable rotating shifts, stuck there and now unable to do anything to make their middle-age lives any better. Cashing their weekly check at the local bar was what they looked forward to doing. When I first told my coworkers that I was only staying until the next college fall semester began, they told me, “You won’t go. You’ll get stuck here like the rest of us. The money will keep you here and soon you’ll find that you’re stuck.” My last day at work I constantly had to dodge numerous bucket fulls of black dye mixed with water as my coworkers tried to locate me during the day because I was able to leave and they couldn’t. Trying to dose me with dye told me of their animosity. I had to clock out early to escape from them, a reminder of how bad their lives were.

I'm sure your opinion of your coworkers had nothing to do with their animosity towards you.

And on and on it goes.  DUers believe union workers (and blue collar workers) are white, racist, sexist, uneducated, stupid, unhealthy men stuck in dead-end jobs.  It really is a mystery why working men and women might not want to support such a bunch of condescending elitist assholes.

He saved the industry and helped the workers by spending millions of taxpayer dollars going to shuffle to visit the picket lines and bedazzle them with a couple of minutes of bullshit. :argh:

Well, if you're working in any kind of trade and you can't say things like;

Master/Slave cylinder
Male/Female connection
Or that you've been blacklisted from entering a project

Real Estate Brokers/Agents are no longer supposed to use;

Master bedroom/Master bathroom

Yeah, I can see how they are against the 'woke' leftists.

How many auto plants went over to Mexico after the Clinton that actually became president signed NAFTA?

This fun little OT exchange is a nice little break from the projections of "ebil rethugs are racists and stupid and brainwashed and can't think for themselves" coming from the racist, ignorant, and hiveminded DUmp flies.

38. My friend isn't the one saying these things.

He's telling me about what others say. He's fighting the good fight.

Secondly they have said it:
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/12/politics/beto-orourke-hell-yes-take-ar-15-ak-47/index.html

As was said upthread when the propaganda and tribalism is so think, it barely matters what they actually say.
Please don't bicker with me about the details here because details don't matter, and I'm not the one with these sentiments.
I'm just reporting it.

63. That is so

disingenuous.

From your link asserting "they" all say it:

"Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke reiterated his support for a mandatory gun-buyback program of assault-style rifles on Thursday and said,

“Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

"O’Rourke’s comments come in the wake of a string of mass shootings in the United States, including in his hometown of El Paso, where 22 people were gunned down at a Walmart in August."

Supporting a buy back program for WEAPONS OF WAR is not what the MAGAts lie about Dems. And any decent human being will want to fix a problem that is perpetually murdering children.

If you don't want pushback don't post right wing propaganda on DU.

85. Congrats on missing the point.

Do i need to point out to you that the subject of the post and much of the thread itself is: right wing propaganda?

Re: "they all say it" I didn't say that, don't put words in my mouth. All i said is it has been said, then i provided a link.
The challenge was "when has he ever heard a Democratic candidate or any other say that"
I posted a link where a Democratic candidate said basically that. It's all they will ever listen to in order to reinforce what they already believe.

Apparently you're more interested in self righteously flogging the gun control issue rather than understanding why Union guys aren't voting Democratic.

Perhaps try to reign in your knee-jerking and CAPITALIZATION and Bold text long enough for YOU to understand the context of my post is about what other people are thinking. Not what I'm advocating.

The amount of sheer stupid in the replies is staggering.

'Saved the auto industry'?

Democrats are killing it by mandating that auto companies build vehicles that they can not profit from, which workers do not want to build, and consumers do not want to buy own or drive.

Ground level uaw members know this.

DUmmies do not.
"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice." - John Adams
