Thread of support for the unions/guilds representing writers and actors

These creative people deserve fair compensation for their work that makes millions for their companies. Most of the members make less than $30000 per year.

Questionable premise.

My daughter (for example) was a hollywood A-lister for a 'winkling' in time. She made decent money for a few seconds (it seems) - and then held her pager near for-a-year, awaiting that call that never came (again).

She still has that same pager but no longer keeps it charged, as she works her way up from barista to front-end manager at a local coffee shop.

I love you very much, my daughter!

What is an "A-lister for a 'winkling' in time"?  Does that mean she wrote a few lines that actually made it into a script?  And she wasn't much of an A-Lister if she immediately got kicked to the curb after her little flash in the pan.  And the fact that she was still using a pager meant this flash happened decades ago.  So after 30 or 40 years she's reaching out for that golden ring, also know as a Starbuck's name tag that says "manager".

I wonder what a doctorate from Yale in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism costs.  No doubt that many of his podcasts are lamenting the fact that he can't pay off his student loans and complaining that taxpayers aren't stepping up to pay for his useless degree.

F*ck unions. A once noble idea to protect employees has devolved into irrelevancy. Last time I checked, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the less than 7% of the U.S. population belongs to a union. And a vast majority of them are government employees.

AI will be writing the scripts soon, even coming up with the premise for the shows. Then computer generated actors will play the parts. It’ll look as real as life. These Hollywood types better get used to being persona non grata.

I have noticed that whenever someone praises unions, it's for stuff they did decades ago.

I have noticed that whenever someone praises unions, it's for stuff they did decades ago.

Most of the stuff that unions fought, bled and even died for are now mandated by Federal law.

Overtime, sick leave, workplace safety etc.

They're limited to arguing over stupid stuff now.

I do think the writers deserve to get paid more; in addition, Hollywood's accounting practices need to be exposed for the fraud they are.

I am fully supporting the writers and actor unions!  Stay on strike until you crush Hollywood film production.

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

As Kissinger said about the Iran/Iraq war, "It's a pity that both sides can't lose."

In this case that is possible and would be an ideal outcome.
