Um... Because we promised the Russians that we would NOT move NATO any further east when they removed all their troops from East Germany but then went ahead and did just that. Making moves to extend NATO into Ukraine was a bridge too far.
1. Ukraine is a member of NATO? When did that happen? Or were you using "move NATO any further east"
flexibly and vaguely to imply more than has actually happened?
2. Russia recognized Ukraine as an independent nation in 1991 in the accords that recognized that the Soviet Union had dissolved, but has violated Ukrainian sovereignty by: invading and occupying the Crimean Peninsula; setting up and funding/arming proxy groups in Donetsk and other Ukrainian territory; invading Ukraine in 2022.
Who violated what "promise"?!!!Why should the US honor this supposed promise "NOT (to) move NATO any further east" when Russia has invaded sovereign countries 3 times, so far, and set up and armed proxies groups in at least 3 countries I'm aware of (Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova)?
