We *have* to stay in this fight

Last edited Thu Apr 13, 2023, 11:47 PM - Edit history (1)

You know, I think the first time I was truly scared for our country in my lifetime was in the early 2000s. I was around 10, the War on Terror launched in the wake of 9/11 and feared of any subsequent attacks.

Then 2016 happened. I couldn’t believe it. I might’ve gotten one hour of sleep in the wee hours of November 9, and was just so mortified after the election had been called.

Still, I tried to take it in stride, that his crimes - Russia and otherwise - would bring him down. I tried to just laugh at what an idiot he was and how they couldn’t govern their way out of a paper bag.

But all the while, I’ve seen unprecedented things in our country. Things that used to doom a candidacy are just perfectly fine. Cruelty? No problem, no worries on attacks against one’s own citizens, like in that photo-op of holding that Bible upside down that made me angry, or a failed response to a global pandemic that would’ve guaranteed four more years if the response had even been competent.

And Jan. 6, that had to have been the worst, saddest day in America since 9/11. In a sense, it was sadder because it wasn’t extremists from the other side of the world who have hated us, it was people we share a country with who rose up because they believed lies, they refused to believe reality in spite of evidence not corroborating their view.

We’ve won elections maybe we ‘normally’ wouldn’t win - the concern over President Biden’s cognitivism might have been a dealbreaker in past years, but we all had to get the criminal out.

Usually, the party that has the White House doesn’t perform well in the midterms, but we performed well because they felt emboldened after Dobbs and their forced birth ideology got rejected even in red states when put to a vote.

But they’re doubling down on extremism that they’ll never win on *if* we continue to vote and do away with their agenda, which *won’t* happen overnight. The past three election cycles have given us plenty of good news, but their poisonous ideology still infiltrates our land.

They know they can’t win on abortion, so they won’t put it to a vote. Then they’ll do what they can to stop you from voting because they know their policies aren’t popular.

They’ll rally against LGBTQ+ and deride them as groomers while enacting child labor laws, forcing 10-year-old rape victims to bear their rapist’s seed, support child marriage and seek to slash every safety net they can, all while supporting and defending treason and dictators, and being out in the open they value guns more than lives by twisting the only amendment in the Constitution they care about.

It’s insane. America is eating itself and their party is why. I used to be taken aback and aghast of Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, the Tea Party.

I know we outnumber them, I know when we turn out, we win. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this predicament if more bothered to vote in 2016. I know we’re wide awake and the majority of us reject their extremism.

But I also know if TFG dropped dead tomorrow, his ideology doesn’t die with him, and I know the more elections they win, the more horrific it will get.

Keep the faith, keep fighting the good vote and keep voting, and one day, it’ll all be worth it.

… by twisting the only amendment in the Constitution they care about.

As opposed to the current President, who cares for none of them.

Yeah, it really sucks when voters are pro-America and anti-swamp.
