My thoughts on the 2nd amendment.

My thoughts on the 2nd amendment.
I truly don't think it's able to keep up with today's society.

As an example, the 2nd ammendment was written when a man could rapid fire a musket at about a round every 3-4 minutes. A Single man of today all kevlared up with an AR15 in each arm with 100 round clips could take out a civil war platoon by himself.

Here's an analogy as to how the constitution needs to change with society, or how it can be wrongly interpreted to mean something other (well regulated militia)

So back in 1789 when the constitution was born they made an ammendment that says to celebrate the 4th of July we will fire our largest cannon into the bank of the Hudson River. (cannons were the biggest weapons back then) If we were to fast forward to today and followed the constitution to the letter. every 4th of July we'd have to fling a hydrogen nuclear warhead into the bank of the Hudson River.

The 2nd ammendment shouldn't be used to protect war killing machines like assault rifles!

He probably couldn't hit anything trying to fire two ARs simultaneously.

100 round clips would be pretty long and unmanageable.

A well trained soldier during the revolution could fire 3 to 4 rounds a minute... not once every 3 to 4 minutes.

The meaning and purpose of the 2nd Amendment (and the Bill of Rights in general) is completely lost on them. The reason it exists is not because the founders didn't think guns in civilian hands were dangerous; it was because the threat of government abusing its citizens far exceeds any threat posed by civilians owning guns (or in the case of the 1st Amendment, saying something controversial, etc.).

Interpreted literally, we would still be firing a cannon, or something cannon-like (a hydrogen bomb is not a cannon).

"Wrongly interpreted" is what they all do over there on the island.

The second amendment is a restriction on governmental exercise of power. It isn't a 'the people shall or shall not' amendment, it's a 'the government shall not' amendment.

'The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed' (by government).

And it wasn't just grandaddys squirrel gun they sought to protect from the grubby mitts of government, it was militarily effective arms aka 'war-killing' machines.
"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice." - John Adams

"The right of the people to keep and bear ARMS shall not be infringed" (emphasis mine).

Nowhere in the 2nd amendment, or the entire Constitution for that matter, are muzzle loaders, blunderbusses, machine guns crossbows longbows spears knives brickbats or frying pans mentioned.

It's the right of the people to keep and bear ARMS.

It’s a mag not a clip and a 100 round magazine is unpractical that’s why we use a drum.
