Very distressing news.

I've just learned that a lifelong close friend, whom I've known since I was 13, he was 10, was arrested two years ago for possession of child pornography.

My first reaction was to mutter "Jesus." Subsequently and to this moment I've been unable to think. The words my sister said ring in my ears, an overlapping cacophony.

He moved to Oregon last April, and I wonder if his arrest was the motivation. No matter; he still has to come back to Orange County CA for trial. At least I hope there's a trial. I want him humiliated.

I really don't know how to process this. Should I block him? Ignore him? Write him an angry letter? Because I'm furious (for the second time in four days).

From this I gather that the dummy in question is going for a drive with windows rolled down in order to find a body of water in which to toss a couple of hard drives.

53. A Friend of mine and a man that I respected was grooming.

I cannot tell you how much a shock it was. He was a deep thinker, a poet and a handsome and mannered fellow that I suspect could have had his choice of women. Sadly he chose a high school student and that was the undoing of so much brilliance.

To this day, I wish him well but I wish girls to be well away from him.

It's shocking when it happens. You wonder about yourself. Why didn't I know who they were? People are good at hiding things, that's why.

My sympathies. It's quite a shock. OTOH, You've gotten good advice elsewhere in the thread. He's a lifelong friend (different than my situation) and you might want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Two observations:

1. They disclose that these people are friends and acquaintences, and we know with whom they do and do not consort, when it comes to political views that others hold.

2. They aren't blaming republicans/righty.

So, let me get this straight.  Voting republican, questioning the wrong elections, not bowing at the altar of Slo Joe, abortion on demand, LGBTQXYZWTF and climate change are all among reasons to disown family and friends, but you have to ask the hive mind about how to handle a friend who has been charged (and I'm guessing convicted since it was 2 years ago and you won't say) with something like this? 

Not saying there is really an automatic response.  Devil is always in the details of the charges and responses, and there are considerations like whether the person wants help and if one is in a position to offer that help or not, but it's not something to put up for an internet poll to figure out.
