I've been hearing it over and over on other message boards.

That and the "Why are people telling me I'm racist if I don't vote for Obama?"

I keep asking who is telling you that, and apparently it's the Democrats and the media.

Anyone else hearing this shit?

I don't ever remember anybody ever saying that.

Barack Obama's ancestors owned slaves according to a report released by a genealogist who works at the Library of Congress.

Many people know that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's father was from Kenya and his mother from Kansas.

But an intriguing sliver of his family history has received almost no attention until now: It appears that forebears of his white mother owned slaves, according to genealogical research and census records.

The records, which had never been addressed publicly by the Illinois senator or his relatives, were first noted in an ancestry report compiled by William Addams Reitwiesner, who works at the Library of Congress and practices genealogy in his spare time. The report, on Reitwiesner's Web site, carries a disclaimer that it is a "first draft" --one likely to be examined more closely if Obama is nominated.

According to the research, one of Obama's great-great-great-great grandfathers, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 census in Nelson County, Ky. The same records show that one of Obama's great-great-great-great-great-grandmothers, Mary Duvall, also owned two slaves.

Yes, of course.

Barry "Six States" Obama's father was from a group in then-British East Africa who frequently kidnapped black Africans and sold them to the brown Arabs for slaves.  This was still going on as late as the 1940s.

The British had prohibitions against slavery, prohibitions which covered the whole Empire, but the British were also sensitive to the local cultures and mores of the colonials, and so while enforcing the law once in a while, generally let it go, so as to not upset people, as they did with the Hindus enslaving the "untouchables" of India.

With my southern heritage, I know for a fact that my ancestors were slave owners.  They've been dead since the civil war, and I sure don't feel guilty about things THEY did.

By doing a little nosing around, I've found that most of my ancestors came over to the US after the Civil War, which would make it highly unlikely that they owned slaves.  But, even if they were slave owners, I'd hafta agree with you, BC, and not feel guilty about things they did.

As would I.  At least Rodman demonstrated something called ability.  He made himself the best rebounder of his era.  It's not racist to recognize ability, or the lasck of the same.
