The Obama campaign talks a lot about new ideas and expanding the political map, but in the swing state of Pennsylvania, which the campaign has focused on almost exclusively since the Democratic convention, old-school issues still rise to the fore.

The latest example came Friday during a small political event at SCHOTT North America Inc., a glass factory in Duryea, Pa., where even a hand-picked crowd threw Barack Obama a curve ball.

A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

 Until After I get more Liberal SCOTUS judges approved , then I may take away certan types of your guns ... :popcorn:

I thought it was a terrible answer as well, even for him - doesn't matter if he wants to confiscate guns or not, he doesn't have the political power to do so right now, so there's no need for you to worry your little pretty head about it. ::)

Even IF he didn't take away our guns, I'm sure that he'd find a way to make them unaffordable to use. Perhaps like an extremely exhorbitant excise tax on ammunition ?? There have been rumours of that being in the works. Kind of like the NFA of 1934. Machine guns weren't made "illegal", per se, but they required a Federal Tax Stamp. The .gov just didn't print ANY tax stamps, therefore, making them LEGALLY unobtainable. Then there's the micro-stamping initiative floating around the country. Require ALL guns to have the micro stamp on the firing pin or ejector, otherwise they'll be "illegal" and subject to confiscation. No, when it comes to Dems & gun control, I don't trust them ONE bit!!

So he DOES want to, just can't get it done just yet.

Its OK senator, you never will.  The 2nd amendment is there as a threat against any politicians who seek to overstep their Constitutional authority.  Its got nothing to do with sport hunting.

September is the month for Barry to attempt to backtrack from his history (what there is of it) and his statements over the grossly long campaign season.  Thirty days are not enough.

Won't matter to the tingly loin crowd but I pray to God that the mushy middle sees through it.  I believe God has sent us the SarahCudda to make sure that happens.

It's really funny (strange) that today's Democrats will do anything and everything to usurp the Constitution. Obama has been on record as to being anti-gun, then it was for "sensible" gun control, now, he's further attempting to appease the masses. We ALL know what his record is. It's PUBLIC record. That tells me ALL I need to know about the man and his stance on gun control.
