A telling thing happened at my house last night


So I get home and told my wife about the loan forgiveness. She’s super busy right now and doesn’t consume News like I do. Her first reaction (no preparation from any news source) was “Well, aren’t I glad I paid mine off”.

After dinner we called my Mom to just check in. Mom asked if my wife was “mad” about the situation. Fox News is on constantly at my folks home. I brought up PPP loans and Empty Greene’s $180K forgiveness. This wasn’t argumentative but Mom said she’d heard one of “The Squad” also had PPP loans forgiven. I looked that up but can’t find anything on it. I’m guessing both PPP and Tye Squad were mentioned near each other on Fox so the viewer puts that together on their own.

Several hours later something hit me. We are so programmed to be divisive that we can’t help it. Rich people getting more money? Lots of it. Sure they deserve it. Maybe we’ll end up getting something out of it. People on par with ourselves? I’M GETTING SCREWED! WHERE’S MINE?!?? We’re fighting over nickels (TANF) and scraps.

A generation of student loan borrowers, plus or minus a number of deadbeats, paid off their student loans.  Another generation of student loan borrowers - less the deadbeats who decided to live up to or beyond their means without paying their student loans - are paying their student loans, with some paid off. Yeppers, we who paid off or who are paying our student loans just got a big slap and a big middle finger in the face from LIEden & Krew.

Doing real estate I saw several people buying all kinds of stuff with student loan money.  I wasn't aware you could do that until then.  It shocked me.

Not sure if he used student loan money to buy the car but if he can afford to make >$500 month payments for a car he can pay his own student loan debts. F'ing numerous $300 sneakers is also an insult to those of us picking up his tab.

The interesting thing about this LIEden move is that on one hand he POed a lot of people who believe it should not have been done. OTOH, uber-Progs like AOC and probably bunches of recipients of the loan forgiveness are already howling, "It's not enough!" LIEden may stuck in the cleft stick of his own cleaving.

My student loans at DeVry were tuition and books only. Being able to use FISL $$ for partying, bail, beer/weed, and car down payments wasn't a thing for us.

The U.S. Senate passed the House version of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) legislation Wednesday night, tripling the time allotted for small businesses and other PPP loan recipients to spend the funds and still qualify for forgiveness of the loans.

The bill passed in a unanimous voice vote hours after Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson initially blocked it. Among the key provisions is a change in the threshold for the amount of PPP funds required to be spent on payroll costs to qualify for forgiveness to 60% of the loan amount.

The Senate approval sent the House bill, called the Paycheck Protection Flexibility Act, to President Donald Trump, who signed it Friday.

During the Chinese Wuhan Red Death, the U.S. government forcibly shut down businesses, therefore the PPP loan forgiveness was justified to reimburse that action.

Gifting student loan debt is likely not Constitutional, so I'd expect a flurry of lawsuits once Sharter Joe actually signs this piece of garbage with the stroke of his his quill.

On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks said the Biden White House pointing to Republican members of Congress who got Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans forgiven to respond to criticism of its student loan program is wrong because the PPP loans were designed to preserve jobs and were designed to be forgiven, while student loans “are things people signed promising to pay them back.” He also stated that the response lacked class, and “if you’re going to be unclassy, be smart about it. Don’t be dumb about it if you’re not classy.”

Brooks said the response was “Juvenile and not their best moment. The PPP was designed to help people preserve jobs in the moment [of a] pandemic. Those loans were not meant to be paid back. These college loans are things people signed promising to pay them back. Sometimes, life happens and, as I say, sometimes we should help forgive debt [of] somebody who’s just trying to make it into the middle class. But it’s just not an apt comparison. And the Biden White House has been classy. And this was not that classy. And if you’re going to be unclassy, be smart about it. Don’t be dumb about it if you’re not classy.”
