I bought some Beanee Weenees today.
« on: June 03, 2022, 10:28:15 AM »
I am short in the beans department and I was looking at canned beans. Van De Camps Pork and Beans tastes fine, but has no actual pork...its just a can of flavored beans. So I ordered two cans of Beanee Weenees.

I will taste test them later today. I have to test like this to see if I will actually eat what I stock.

Its just, the name. If ever I am robbed, the crooks are likely to leave me my beanee weenees. along with a condolence card.

Downside so far. They are only half the size of a regular can and cost just as much. Not a stocking item unless they taste like gold. Whoever thought a simple weenee could cost you economically?

I make my own beans.

One lb. of dry navy beans:
  • Sort, wash, soak for 8 hours. Drain (save some liquid), rinse, season with salt and pepper, and put on to simmer about an hour. Beans should be mostly tender.
  • In a skillet, render some bacon (chopped in large pieces). Add onion, cumin, paprika, small can of tomato sauce, brown sugar, dry mustard, other seasonings to taste. Soften onions, add chopped garlic at the end. Add to bean mixture with enough additional liquid - chicken stock, bean water, whatever you have - to allow for final cooking. Do not add too much liquid!
  • Add skillet mixture to an ovenproof dish.
  • Bake at 375 until beans are tender and liquid is absorbed. Add additional liquid if necessary. Cover during baking if moisture needs to be retained.

I like a couple of the varieties of Bush's beans.

When camping, I take along a monster pack of hotdogs (you know, the cheap no-brand ones with extra lips and spleens in 'em -- yum!) and among other preparations, cut them up into the beans.  Makes a simple single-pan concoction, appreciated by all ages with teeth.

Oh I did like it. But in a SHTF scenario, I'll be too busy shooting Hippies to take the time to make all of that.

You have a good point. But aren't the hippies stoned all the time? Don't wanna do anything but look bleary-eyed while they munch on their Doritos?

Now lefties and Antifa/BLM types. That's a different story. They'd make great targets once they start with their shit.  :whistling:
