Buying Twitter Is Like Buying a Puppy.

The idea is attractive, of course. Puppies are cute and instantly love you to death. Every parent knows this. Their kids say, "Can we have a puppy?" "No." But that "no" turns into "OK" pretty quickly. Kids can be pretty convincing when they want something really badly.

Of course, once the puppy comes home to your house, things get more complicated right away. Anyone who has owned a dog understands all of the reasons why that is.

Elon Musk is buying Twitter. He posts on Twitter sometimes. It's an attractive way to spread whatever message you have to offer. Of course, people respond to your message, and sometimes pick on you with counter-messages. But, what if you owned Twitter? You could just block the people who don't like what you have to say, right?

Well, yes, you could. But, then, other people are going to remind you that you said you wanted it because "free speech" or something. You could ban them, too, but that's a never-ending rathole, once you get in there.

Musk has no idea how Twitter works, really. He has no idea about the dynamics of controlling an anarchistic sort of social media environment. He's used to saying, "Make it so" in his other ventures, but that's not going to work on Twitter.It exists as a platform for the ideas of its users, and that alone. It's useless without all those users and all that fractious bickering that goes on.

Musk might say, "Make that stop." But, he's not going to be moderating Twitter, as much as moderation is possible there. He's not that kind of detail-oriented, hands-on kind of guy. He's the epitome of a top-down oligarchic leader. Twitter users don't work for him. He can't fire them. He can't order them around. They're like puppies who pee and poop on your carpet and chew up your favorite shoes. You can teach the puppy not to do those things, but it takes time and careful training. Imagine millions of puppies peeing and pooping on a constant basis, all the while chewing up everything they can find.

I don't think he understands what is about to happen. I don't think he's going to like owning Twitter one bit.


Not only does he know him very well, he thinks he's a fool.  Someone needs to tell Elon that MM is bad mouthing him.  I'll bet Elon won't invite him over anymore once he finds out.

Having said that, I'm not a Twitter user, can you not block people you don't want to read?  If so, what the hell is all the hub bub, bub?

There is no bub bub..it's a bunch of snowflakes who have their panties tied in a wad (both male and female qualify on that site for the statement) because regardless of who you can block,

When you buy a puppy, you have to train it to go 1 and 2 outside. 2 you have to pick up after to clean the spot.

Does someone want to tell that poster that Elon can block/mute people on Twitter? That is, if he doesn't want to hear from you, he doesn't have to.

But the fact is Musk can deal with hearing things he doesn't want to hear, a trait people on the left can't even fathom having.

PGR is correct.

There has been a very narrow avenue of acceptable speech on Twitter and the rules were applied unequally. Conservative posters had to deal with ad hominem attacks and liberal posters had carte blanche to say anything and not get banned. And that’s on top of the topics with which you couldn’t disagree with the “official position”. That’s not dialogue, that an echo chamber where you pretend there’s free speech.

I either heard or read that what got Musk going on this was when the Babylon Bee named the trans freak that’s part of the health department “Man of the Year”. It’s a satire site, and the Twitter snowflakes couldn’t handle it. Elon saw it and knew that type of town square social platform was not conducive to free speech, and he’s right. Shortly after he tweeted a poll asking if he should buy Twitter and it started from there.

Musk doesn't have to know the inner guts of how Twitter works no more than he needs to understand the design details of Space X rockets. He will hire the people who do understand the coding details and they will make it work however he wants it to work. Libs fail to realize that people who are billionaires are extremely intelligent, more so than the normal intelligent person. It takes a lot of brains to make that much money
